Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, and Fibroids

Hi All,

I am back after an initial experience in 2011. I had pain and heavy frequent bleeding with lots of clots (I had always had the clots, but didn't realize they weren't normal . I had exploratory surgery with endo lesions removed. I had a D&C to make sure nothing was bad with the fibroids. I had relief from the pain after surgery, but then it came back. I did the endo diet which helped, but not completely. Then I did pelvic floor PT and went 2 years without pain and I was back to my normal and very predictable cycles.

Now in July of 2014, the pain came back. In August/September, I started having my period every other week. The ultrasound showed adenomyosis (without question from the radiologist who told me what she was seeing while I was on the table). So, I have a new thing as well as what appears to be the original problems coming back.

I am back to the diet and the PT, but they are not helping like they did before unfortunately. I have another couple of months before I am scheduled to go back to the GYN. I have done a lot of web searches and there appears to be only one treatment that is effective for all three conditions and that is hysterectomy. If they GYN does any invasive surgery, she is only willing to do the hysterectomy because the regular surgery every couple of years isn't good.

I wanted to know if anyone else had all three and what happened.

My other question is more long term. If I manage it now, will it just keep coming back? Am I putting off a hysterectomy that I will need because a woman in her early 40s with these three conditions is likely to have complications when menopause hits? Will I have postmenopausal bleeding and need it? Am I at greater risk for cancer (it doesn't run in my family, but hysterectomies do on my Dad's side)?

I am not looking to have a child, so that is not a consideration in the choice.

Thanks,
Laura

Re: Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, and Fibroids

I am about 10 days out from surgery and my pathology report just came back to confirm I had all three, endo, Adnemyosis and small fibroids. My doctor said this should cure my problems, 100%. As I don't want more children, this was not an issue for me. But a major surgery none the less.

Long term, as with any hyster, I am told you might start menopause a year or two early. But as to other issues, that would be best answered by your doc.

I can tell you my quality of life became unbearably degraded. I couldn't do it anymore. After 5 years and it was only getting worse, what was the alternative? Adnemyosis is nasty and only gets worse. I would consider your quality of life. You will know when or if hyster is right for you. It took me years to decide.

Best of luck and God bless!
