How long before fatigue goes AWAY !!!

Hi Ladies -

6 weeks post op - feeling pretty good other than fatigued all the time. I was only out of work for 12 days and went back - office job so no physical lifting or anything. I'm so tired when I get home from work and on the weekends - forget it - I just want to lay around and nap on and off all day ... When do you get some energy back? Tell me soon! Please?

Re: How long before fatigue goes AWAY !!!

A lot of this depends on the length of your surgery, how much work was done and what kind of anesthesia was used. I had a recent conversation with a friend who is a surgeon. I mentioned, "I wish I wouldn't be so tired". Surgery was 17 months ago. He said, "since I had a 6 hour surgery and quite a bit of work done, the toxins from anesthesia can take years to totally flush out. This is one of the reasons we don't like to perform multible surgeries in a short period of time." Makes sense to me. I am not as tired as I used to be but still tire easily.

Re: How long before fatigue goes AWAY !!!

I was told by anesthesiologist and Dr that fatigue would probably bother me for months after surgery. Agreed, depends on your surgery and how your body responds to it.

Re: How long before fatigue goes AWAY !!!

If I had to go back to work I think I may have fatigue. But being out of work due to disability (systemic arthritis with multiple surgeries) I have only had to gague how I felt pre-op and Post-op. I'm 4 days post and fatigue is minimal as is pain. I'm back to my normal schedule of sleeping 6 hr/night and have the same energy I had pre-op. I have to keep telling myself not to do much and to stay resting. In my head I know my insides need to heal.

Re: How long before fatigue goes AWAY !!!

I'm 10 weeks out and still get tired even after only working a 4 hour shift. I work in retail and an on my feet the entire time. An 8 hour shift I'm exhausted, but since surgery I can't always sleep well and can't get on a regular schedule since my work hours are all over the place. Before surgery I had the same hours every week and the same days off.

Re: How long before fatigue goes AWAY !!!

I think that's the million dollar question for all of us. I had 4 weeks off work - going back full time (8:00 to 5:00) tomorrow. I too have a desk job so my biggest concern is becoming really tired in the afternoon.

Re: How long before fatigue goes AWAY !!!

Dr said it may be closer to 10 weeks before some energy returns, I was sick a few months before surg, she reminded me. I know I'm whooped today. Weird though, cause I have trouble sleeping. I don't nap during day, but around 2, I crash . I'm 7 wks out. And I get more tired if I drive or push a cart. DH still does the heavy shopping and heavy stuff, floors. I tell him, I'm 'trying the get healthy enough for sexual activity, ' and he laughs and runs to do whatever I ask I ask, lol. he's been very helpful and encouraging. I know it takes a ton of patience. I'm not so good at it, but Dr says I'm on the right track and not to worry. Mine was a basic TVH , took about an hr and I'm in my 40's and very healthy otherwise . Hang in there, we will get there together.
