Worried....Bleeding after almost 4 months

My TAH was at end of May 2013. I never had any bleeding after surgery. Recovery has been slow, though, and definitely slower and more painful than I expected.

Today I have a massive headache, the type I haven't experienced since before my surgery. So when I went to the bathroom, there was blood on the TP. Not bright red, but a bit brownish-red, like when your period first starts.

What the heck is going on in there? Everything should have been healed a couple of months ago!

So I called my surgeon's office, and she told me to wait 24 hours, and if there is no change, I should go and see my GP. Only problem is that my GP is always fully booked up and generally takes a couple of weeks (if you're lucky) just to get an appointment.

I am so worried that something has gone horribly wrong in there !!!

Has anybody else experienced this? Is this normal?

Re: Worried....Bleeding after almost 4 months

You and I had our surgery on the same day! Well, I had just the slightest of brown discharge last month at the time I would have been on my period. I didn't really know what to think about it. I was diagnosed with endometreosis/adhesions 3 years ago and feel as if I have that pain back and think there may be a correlation. I have been keeping a symptoms diary and noticed that I did not bleed during this months "period" time, just had the pain. I am keeping a watch on it myself ,but for me, if I didn't have any reason why I could be bleeding then I think I would see a doctor as soon as possible. Hope you get some answers...

Re: Worried....Bleeding after almost 4 months

So it turns out that my hubby has a doctor's appt tomorrow morning, so I will be going with him.

I'm pretty sure my doc won't be able to examine me right then and there, since I don't have an appointment, but I am going to tell her what's happening, and ask her how quickly she can see me.

I am beginning to panic.

Re: Worried....Bleeding after almost 4 months

So I managed to get an appointment with my GP today, so that was a huge relief.

She checked me, and also used some kind of test strip to confirm the presence of blood in the vagina.

She put a call into my surgeon so make sure he is aware.

The next step for me is an ultrasound, so we'll see what turns up, if anything. They told me that if the bleeding gets worse or soaks a pad, I should go to hospital.

So far the bleeding seems to be holding steady and perhaps lessening, but the cramping and aching is getting stronger.

Happy to hear that you were able to be seen. If the cramping and pain increases then don't hesitate to go to the ER.

Re: Worried....Bleeding after almost 4 months

Glad you got to see your doctor in a timely manner. I got online tonight because I started bleeding slightly and cramping today myself and wanted to see if any other sisters had the same problem. Since I had my cervix removed I wasn't expecting any mini periods.

Re: Worried....Bleeding after almost 4 months

Well, I had my ultrasound on Monday, so just waiting to hear back from my doctor, which likely won't be until next week.

My bleeding has stopped (lasted about 5 days), but the pains inside have continued to increase. It has nothing to do with "doing too much", as I have had many days of resting and taking it easy. I'll be just sitting here, reading or watching TV, and will get horrible sharp pains inside.

I'm wondering if it can be some sort of infection, although I don't think I have a fever. I need to keep pushing my doctor for more tests if the U/S shows nothing.

Re: Worried....Bleeding after almost 4 months

Hi I just had this same issue at about 3 months now. I was not bleeding at all, never really did all that much since surgery May 29. My bleeding was just a light pink or sometimes brownish pink and the cramping was a real bother.

turns out the vaginal cuff had a large area that wasn't healing, and there were stitches in there too. My doctor did a biopsy to make sure all was ok, and it was, so prescribed estrace to help with the healing. Plus had a few silver nitrate treatments. Last check up about a week ago and things are healing, slowly but surely. Estrace is wonderful...has also helped a lot with sleeping and relieved the incredible hot flashes!

Good luck...hope the ultrasound turns out ok! Hugs

Re: Worried....Bleeding after almost 4 months

Hey Diva, how did they find out it was the cuff that wasn't healing?

Did they do an ultrasound? Or did you have an internal visual exam? If it was a visual exam, was it done by your family doctor or by the specialist who did your surgery?

At my 6-week check-up, my surgeon didn't even do an internal exam. He just had me lie down and he looked at my incision and felt my tummy a bit, then said I am fine and can get up.

Intercourse is very painful, and I still feel "raw" inside (although I haven't had the courage to feel it for myself).

This could be my problem too. I just don't know if it's the type of thing that would show up on an ultrasound.
