Endometrial biopsy: Dr was unable to perform procedure

So, the decision was already made to have a hysterectomy.

Dr wanted to do an Endometrial Biopsy in order to test for cancer cells. We started the procedure but my uterus was so tilted that he was unable to perform the biopsy. He tried. It did NOT feel good.

The plan is to test the uterus once it is removed.


Anyone else have this happen to them?

I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I know it is hard to wait until you have your surgery to find the answer to this. I had to wait as well for testing on my ovarian cyst. For me, they tested while I was in the OR, so maybe they will do something similar for you. Mine was thankfully benign.

The waiting is hard. I'm probably going to have a hyst. Dr tried to biopsy today just so we didn't have to worry about cancer. He was unable to because I have so many fibroids he couldn't get anything in there.

He is sending me to a specialist next week so hopefully we'll figure out what the polyp is that has grown amongst the fibroid forest that I apparently have spawned.

Hi Whirlygig....

My Dr didn't do any followup with the biopsy attempt, because he knew he was taking out the uterus regardless.

No fun.
I did do some shopping today, for some super comfy clothes (PJ bottoms, cotton t-shirts) that I can wear around the house during my recovery.

What kind of specialist is he sending you to?

My dr. is a general practitioner. He's sending me to a gyn who handles a lot of his surgical cases. He was just hoping he could do the biopsy himself so we could quit wondering if I have cancer.

I had troubles with endometrial biopsy due to tilted uterus - but they were able to insert clamps and pull the uterus down and into an accessible position to perform the biopsy. I can certainly relate to the discomfort of the procedure. I hope you'll have answers soon.
