Stupid question?...
I have my preop today. Will I be examined? Do I need to do my usual prep? I'm thinking no, but would hate to have to hop up on the table unprepared...

Re: Stupid question?...
2forme - every doctor is different in how they prepare, so it is possible. They scheduled me for another ultrasound to check on the ovaries due to cysts just before my pre-op. She did not check me during mine, but went over all paperwork and answered all of my questions. So, I guess prepare for everything - or call ahead to ask before your appt. Best of luck to you!

Re: Stupid question?...
I did not have an internal during my preop but went in expecting it. Every one and every dr is different so better prepared. If you don't have one, no harm.

Re: Stupid question?...
No such thing as a stupid question!
I had two pre-ops because they thought I might have cancer (didn't). With the gyn/oncologist, he did a pelvic exam. But then I had my pre-op with my OB/GYN and he did not do a pelvic. We just talked about my questions about the surgery and recovery and possible HRT options.

Re: Stupid question?...
You just never know...so go prepared..
It has always bothered me getting pelvic exams, but I gotta say by the time I was finished with this process I had been seen down there so many times that it was getting to be old hat...nothing like desensitizing you!

Re: Stupid question?...
Silkylover, I'm with you. I used to absolutely DREAD pelvic exams; I'd have to take Xanax to deal with incredible anxiety around them. Now? No big deal; none at all. I remember thinking at one point, "Jeez! I think I've been seen down there more times these past four months than in over twice that many YEARS previously!" No sooner would I have one than I'd be having ANOTHER one.
I didn't have a pelvic exam during the pre-op before my D&C, but I DID have one pre-op for the LAVH. She (my doc) only did the manual exam to feel my uterus: no speculum. It was very quick. I didn't expect one, but I'd gone prepared anyway.
Can't hurt to go prepared.
And I didn't get anxious: definitely desensitized now.

Stupid question?...
I used to hate pelvic exams! After bleeding six months straight, a blood transfusion, multiple exams (once a week) while bleeding, and a doctor that dug into my uteris to unblock a blood clot in the office with no pain meds I now just go get it over with. After all that no more cervix and no more speculim! At my pre-op they did check to see if my vagina could handle the uteris and if it was big enough. No speculim this time. Other then the hand nothing else. Of course all doctors are different. I wish you luck and a speedy uneventful recovery.
