Hysterectomy 12/14 going back to work today!

Hi everyone,

I am at 6 weeks post op and doing well. I still have a bit of tan discharge everyday, and still have stamina issues but overall I feel almost back to normal.

I walk 30 min a day and can't wait to get back to my normal workouts of weight lifting and elliptical machines. I am considering doing yoga based on some of the post here.

I will continue to use this site as my source of inspiration and hope and encouragement. Thanks to all my fellow hysterical sisters for getting me through the low moments, just being able to read how others had similar symptoms all along was so helpful and reassuring!

My doctor says we can't resume sexual activities until 8 weeks so I am counting the days now!

Happy recovery to you all, jcgal

THanks for the great update! Hope things are going well at work and in general. I can't wait to be 6 weeks out - have my Denise Austin yoga DVD for when I feel ready! Less than two weeks to go til your big post-op milestone!

Re: Hysterectomy 12/14 going back to work today!

Congratulations! You sound very much like where I am now. My TAH was 12/12 and I started half days this past Tuesday. The first day back I was sore and tired after 3.5 hours, but yesterday I had to remind myself to leave, because I was feeling much more back into the swing of things and, as often happens, reactive to the backlog of work piled on my desk.

It is so tempting to throw myself back in full force - and even imagine doing overtime to catch up, but that is an instinct I need to resist. Let us know how you feel as your return to work progresses, and take care of yourself!

Re: Hysterectomy 12/14 going back to work today!

Sparrow's song... thanks for your post and good luck to you.
You will soon be back to your DVD's! Watch out for week 4, that was my toughest week... I had felt so good at week 3, then 4 I started the stitches dissolving and more drainage and feeling tired...and I got a bit low.... but once that week was over... I have just been getting better and better! I am back to work part time this week... and it is tiring... but feels so good to be pushing my brain to think outside of my own troubles... you know? And yes 2 weeks to go for my other milestone .... grin.

Phoenix 2012 hello! It does seem that we are following similiar paths, huh? My work is such that I have my own projects so working part time is very hard because the projects still have to get done. But my stamina level is helping me to keep it real this week. Next week I move up to 30 hours... so I should keep getting stronger. Good luck to both of you gals!

Re: Hysterectomy 12/14 going back to work today!

Jcgal, today was stressful in a bad/good way: my energy and mood just weren't in balance, yet I was able to get a lot of good work done and was approached about expanding my duties as I recover. I don't want to turn down the opportunity but I also don't want to interfere with my recovery by pushing too hard too soon.

Yeah, no sex for a couple more weeks but DH is very understanding and we agree that it needs to be the right time for both of us. I have a 35-40 minute walk to work, and managed to pull that off four times so far; as weather allows I will walk one or both ways going forward.

While I'm already inching past the 4-hour mark on my 'part time', I will be trying my best to stay under 40 hours, even though I am soooo motivated to grab more projects and catch them up. Need to remember that no matter what is happening from the job side, my body has one chance to recover well, and I don't want to lose ground now.

Excelsior, sisters!
