I'm one week out, what should I be doing?

Physically, I mean. What should I physically be up to? This past week has sort of been a blur. I can't believe my surgery was a week ago. I'm getting up and down pretty easy, but I'm wondering how much I should be doing. How much walking? Stuff like that.

Re: I'm one week out, what should I be doing?

Resting... :-)

Just listen to your body (and your Dr.) and really take this time to rest and heal and don't overdo it.

It will be different for each of us, but I started out doing very slow short walks a few days after surgery with my DH. Some days I have been able to walk around the block.a couple times and other days I struggle to walk to the bathroom from the couch. :-)

My Doc said NO lifting anything over 20 lbs (but honestly I haven't lifted more than a full gallon of milk), no exercising for 6 weeks other than slow walks and only very light housework such as dusting, etc. Does blowing the dust off count?? That way you get the breathing exercises in at the same time!!??

Re: I'm one week out, what should I be doing?

Hi, I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op. When I got home from the hospital I immediately logged in to this site and found some great information. I'm not allowed to post the link, so I'll do my best to point you in the right direction. Go to the main HysterSisters page and scroll down until you see the Post Op section. From there you'll see videos and information specific to where you are in your recovery (weeks 1-2, 3-4, etc.). I also had them send me the booklet titled "What 250,000 Women Know About Hysterectomy" a couple of weeks before my surgery. The booklet also has a lot of good information on it about recovery, so you may want to have it mailed or dowload it.

Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without HysterSisters! This site is keeping me sane during this crazy time in my life.

Wishing you a speedy and pain free recovery!

Re: I'm one week out, what should I be doing?

I walked about a mile yesterday, (I am also 1 week post op LAVH) and although I am not paying a high price for it, and can tell that I did more than I was used to doing for the past week. I was used to walking about 3 miles up hills and such (picture the hills of TN), before hand. I had to take an additional dose of pain meds, but no big deal. Today I feel normal again.

I too feel like the last week has been a blur and can hardly believe I'm a week post op!
