Re: BRCA2 gene/hysterectomy/mastectomy

hi, i had a hysterectomy in january and mastectomy in may both because of brca1 and both preventative. i am in the middle of reconstruction now. the mastectomy is much worse recovery wise. i am done with my fills and stopped a little before i should have but they were really painful and i am still extremely sore and in pain. i am sleeping in a recliner because i cant lay flat or on my side, it hurts too much. my implant surgery hopefully will be in august. have you had much pain?

Actually I'm done with my fills and getting ready for final implant surgery - and I really have had no pain with my fills at all!
The mastectomy was very painful and recovery slow- I found the drains extremely painful!
Good luck with your surgery and recovery!!

Re: BRCA2 gene/hysterectomy/mastectomy

i ended up not having a hysterectomy at the same time as the mastectomy, and I am so glad that I did not. The mastectomy was not that painful for me. More muscle spasms from the tissue expanders that no pain pills on earth can help. Muscle relaxers were my best friend. I am a nurse, and unfortunately the idiot nurses that were caring for me after surgery refused to call the doctor about my request for a muscle relaxer. After an argument that never should have had to occur, they relented and called the doctor. Flexeril was my best friend for the first 2 weeks. I had some tissue necrosis and lost my left nipple, so I am slower in getting fills than the average person.

Looking at exchange surgery in October, and am thinking about hysterectomy at the same time.
