Question - Cystocele/Anterior repair surgery concern Cystocele/Anterior repair surgery concern

Hello to everyone! I am new here and I am looking to develop a support system regarding pelvic floor issues. I had cystocele surgery (anterior repair) last Wednesday, June 27, 2012. I also had a mid-urethral sling for SUI. My concern is that I have an induration that developed at the top part of the opening of the vagina. It almost resembles the feeling of a tampon trying to come out of the vagina. When I look at it in the mirror, it is rather large like the size of my pinky finger and is slightly hard. Does anyone who has had an anterior wall repair experienced anything like this? I am concerned that this is not normal. Prior to surgery, I never had anything protruding from the vagina and now there is this mass of tissue that slightly protrudes from the opening. Any help would be great appreciated. I am planning on calling the doc to schedule a visit for him to check it out. I am concerned about waiting till the 6th week visit

Re: Cystocele/Anterior repair surgery concern

Hello WrenK,

You are so early in your recovery it is hard to say what is going on but I am glad you are going to see your doctor. Did he prescribe any estrogen cream to help with your healing? It can help soften the vaginal tissue and strengthen the vaginal wall as well. There is usually so much swelling after these surgeries I don't usually recommend "looking", hopefully it is just part of the tissue swelling.

Let us know what your doctor says.

Re: Cystocele/Anterior repair surgery concern

Hi WrenK. We get so many anxieties at this stage after surgery, mostly I found personally because we don't know what to expect. I was exactly the same after my repairs, looked using a mirror, then I stopped, realised 'what am I looking for' speak to your doctor, great advise from Molly, everything is swollen.
