Packing? what is this?

I read that after a TVH, which is what I am having 7 days from today, that your vagina is packed with surgical packing. Is this true? and how long does it stay in there? I am getting very nervous and have been crying on and off about what to look forward too. I am trying to be strong , but feel very needy right now.
Thank you all for listensing.

Packing? what is this?

Hi danikimm Packing is gauze that is 'packed' into the vagina during the surgery and is intended to absorb any excess bleeding the first night after surgery. It's generally removed by the next day. It seems that those most likely to have packing are those who have A&P repairs with the TVH, but not everyone does - I didn't, and I had those procedures. It's up to the DR - their preference.

Perhaps you could add this to the list of questions you'll have for your DR before the surgery?

It's ok to feel needy right now, that's what we're here for!

Packing? what is this?

I had packing done with my TVH and it was OK. I didn't even know I had it until the urologist was in the next morning and he said something about it. My GYN came in a little while later and he removed it. You'll be on pain meds so if you're feeling a little uncomfortable just push that little button for more meds.

My surgery was in the afternoon and the packing was removed mid-morning the next day. It doesn't stay in long.

The few weeks before surgery are very stressful--it's OK to be needy. Ask any questions that you want here.

Packing? what is this?

Thank you ladies, this info is helpful. I don't know anyone that has had a TVH ,only people that have had it done abdominally. Without this site I would not have anyone to ask these questions so I am forever grateful.

Packing? what is this?

Hi Kelly

Yes, it is coming fast and I definately have the blues. I also have been cleaning my house like crazy and talking my freinds ears off about the big day. I know I am making everyone crazy
Hopefully they all love me enough to put up with me for now. I hope you have lots and lots of help and that your big day goes well. Today is my last day at work and I will send my prayers your way next Wednesday! I will send a post when I return to work or get near a computer (one at home crashed).

Oh Yeah, the packing.. yikes that does not sound comfy but at least it is a short duration.

Good Luck!!

SCARED

I WAS REALLY NERVOUS BEFORE GOING FOR SURGERY. I CRIED ALL THE TIME AND WONDERED IF THIS WAS RIGHT. WHAT I WOULD FEEL LIKE AFTERWARDS. IT REALLY ISN'T AS BAD AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE MY CRAMPS FROM MY FIBROIDS WERE MUCH WORSE. I FELT SOME PRESSURE IF STANDING TO LONG. BUT DON'T WORRY!!! I HAVE NO REGRETS. I AM NOW 5 WKS POST OP. I DID HAVE THE PACKING THAT YOU WERE ALL TALKING ABOUT. IT IS JUST GAUZE. THEY TOOK MINE OUT 2 DAYS LATER. IT RELEIVED SOME PRESUURE IT WAS A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE WHEN REMOVING BUT FELT BETTER AFTERWARDS. I DIDN'T EVEN BLEED WHEN THEY TOOK IT OUT. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!
