4 days post hysterectomy - I just want to sleep and cry :(

I feel so exhausted, surgery was 22nd, and when I'm not sleeping, I just cry. I feel like such a wimp and so disappointed in how I've handled this. Im typically a very tough cookie..the one everyone else comes to for support. I'm so disappointed in myself. Last night I had a nose bleed, vaginal bleed and diarrhea with horrible nausea and cramping....up all night. Slept until 3:30 this afternoon. I feel like such a wimp

Re: I just want to sleep and cry :(

Sounds pretty normal.. This was a big surgery and you are bound to have emotions and a few complications. We are not superwoman. You just will have to let it go for awhile and get pampered for a change!!!Just keep resting as needed and take it easy. Things get better each day!

Re: I just want to sleep and cry :(

At 4 days post-op with both ovaries removed? Go ahead and sleep and cry!

You have just been through MAJOR surgery. Your hormones are nose-diving, the anesthesia and gas are just leaving your system, and rest is absolutely required! I cried every day in the shower for 3 weeks. I felt so much worse - especially fatigued - than I expected to, and I found my limitations so maddening and frustrating. I felt vulnerable having to ask for and accept help - when I am a do it myself and for everyone else kind of women.

But. I'm 6 months post op. I feel fantastic! hang in there! It gets better.

Re: I just want to sleep and cry :(

Hi, you are so early in the recovery phase... You will have a series of various issues .. The fatigue is your body needing rest from a large surgery. Its also hormonal. Reduced estrogen / menopause. Nausea is from anesthesia, pain meds, hormonal & GI system off. Anxiety, stress, emotional, headaches, insomnia, bone aches, etc are all due to reduced estrogen. Eat healthy, stay well hydrated, Have foods w omega fatty acids, if you can eat soy like edemame, avacados, magnesium, nuts, pumpkin seeds, apples, figs or prunes, veggies...B12, b complex.. You can also talk to your Dr about options & HRT.. Feel better!

- what they said! One of my favorite paragraphs in the "What 350,000 Women Know..." booklet available for download here states:
Give Superwoman a Break:
Rest! Fatigue will be your companion for a while, so expect to get tired just taking a shower. This is the time to send your superhero cape to the dry cleaners.
A nurse who led a hysterectomy prep class at the hospital where my surgery was shared that she'd take a shower, fold some clothes then nap. I'm a do-er, organizer, and a problem solver but this surgery is bigger than any Sister. Step back and let others take charge and let others *help you* for a change. Accept support with grace and gratitude. Now is when to do those projects that you've been avoiding because they require time, like organizing scrapbook photos, sorting recipes, or catching up on those magazines that you've not had time to read. I went through two years of magazines cutting out recipes and fitness articles. Or binge watch your favorite TV shows or movies! This is when it's okay!
