Work After A Hyst

I am worried about getting back to work. I am a self-employeed medical transciptionst and have to get back to typing as soon as possible. I work out of my home so I do not have to get dressed and can rest a lot if need be but when would you all say I will feel like getting back to the computer?

I need to contact my clients and let them know how long to expect me to be off. If any one works at home how was your time getting back to the job?

I would appreciate any help with this. I plan to take one week completely off but after that I really need to get back to it. Am I being very unrealistic?

It would probably help to know what kind of surgery I am having. It is an LAVH and possibly taking the ovaries also as there is a history of ovarian cancer in my family.

Thanks

Work After A Hyst

Hi,

The problem with working from home is you may notice a bit of brain fog from the anesthesia and pain meds for a few weeks. So you may not be as accurate as you need to be.

In addition, sitting for more than 20 to 30 minutes at a time can be very uncomfortable and can put a lot of pressure on your healing internal tissues, causing swelling and increased discomfort. So you'd need to change position often or transcribe from a reclining position.

See how you feel after a week or so. But be sure to give yourself the time you need to heal. Your health is the most important and you only get one chance at a good recovery.

s,

Lisa

I had an LAVH on Dec 16, and the first week, I was on the computer (here, of course ) and my stomach really hurt from being "squished".

I agree, you'll be able to be on the computer, but you might need to take frequent breaks to give your organs room..

Good luck!!

Well, I know it was a few weeks before I could really sit at the computer and be productive.

I found that the actual sitting position (meaning sitting up straight) was the most uncomfortable position there was in the immediate post-op period. Standing was OK, and that position where you're half sitting, half lying down was OK.

But of course, that's just me! Others have different issues. I think you'll probably just have to see how it goes. Your body will tell you if you need to get away from the 'puter....

Good luck!
