Back Home from Castle and doing so well

Hello All.

I'm back from a TAH turned TAH w/BSO on 9/19/05 due to unknown severe endo that was attatching my ovaries, etc. to my bowel.

Dr said had he not removed them-would have had to go back in 6mo. to a year from now and remove the ovaries then. So, although I was very upset over all of this, I know it was best. I am 43 years old. Will start on a Vivelle patch today.

I have a midline vertical incision form my navel down.
The pain has been minimal. I had 1 Darvocet for pain following the removal of my PCA Morphine pump-which was wonderful-and that is all I have taken for pain except Motrin 800mg. around the clock-since my surgery.

I did lose twice the amount of blood expected due to my uterus being the size of a basketball and having to be cut down to be taken out in pieces. Also had a JP drain in place until day 3 and my dr. was kind enough to give me a shot of Demerol and Phenergan 1/2 hour before removing this drain and I was glad he did.

For all of you ladies in waiting-as this was not a "textbook" perfect hysterectomy......I am not suffering in the least today-my gas pains have been minimal, My 1st BM was today and absolutley NO PAIN with this either.

Fear is the worst part of the whole thing. I got on the stretcher crying (my poor mother).

Follow the advice you see on here-drink you water, take your gas pills and stool softners and walk, walk, walk. Limit the amount of narcotics you take and you will bounce back a whole lot quicker. I feel WONDERFUL!!!!!

Do not let negative things you read about on here scare you to death. I promise...it's not so bad!

Write me if you need to

Glad you are home and all is going well. Thanks for all the encouraging words to all of us still waiting!!!! I have endometriosis and even though I elected to keep my ovaries, I know that a BSO may be needed.
Take care.

I'm so glad you are doing so well. You may still have some good and bad days. Remember to rest rest rest. Don't do too much and remember to listen to your body. It will tell you when you are doing too much as will your swelly belly. Good luck on a speedy recovery.

I am very glad that you are home. I'm sorry that you have to have another surgery, but I bet you already feel much better without having an a "uterus being the size of a basketball" inside you. Please take it easy and don't over do it. You know the princess drill and let us know how you are doing.
