Changing Pain Sensations

Has anyone noticed the way their pain is changing with time? I am up to day 6 post-op and found that this morning when I got up the pain seem to have changed from a general aching pelvic area and pulling incision to individual areas of stabbing pain that seem to equate to the areas they would have actually cut.

Re: Changing Pain Sensations

Me, too. I thought it was because I've been weaning myself off pain meds, so I figured they had been covering the sharper pains. But maybe it's just normal. How strong are the pains for you?

Re: Changing Pain Sensations

My pain has changed as well. I went from overall major pain to incision pain. Now 10 days post op my incision itches more than hurts but I have pain where I suppose my ovaries were when i lay on my sides.

Re: Changing Pain Sensations

I am still on digesic but spreading them out a bit. I get that ovary type pain when I lie on my side too. Mostly they are just short sharp stabs that occur with change in position - almost as though things are rearranging inside.

Re: Changing Pain Sensations

Those sudden stabbing pains here and there seem to be normal from what I've read, and part of the healing process.
It's helpful to think of them positively!
I had them for probably 6 weeks, but lessening.

Now at more than 8 weeks post TAH/BSO, I don't have those pains at all. I forget most of the time that I even had surgery.

However, there is random discomfort if I have done too much, and my long vertical incision can feel a little tender at times still.
I wish the same for you all - goodbye to the twinges!

I found that going for quite long walks, as well as lying down for periods of time, was a great help to my healing.
Sitting is still a bit uncomfortable for long periods, but it is just a vague thing - no more stabbing pains.

Re: Changing Pain Sensations

Thanks for the encouragement Acey. I have found so far that lying or walking are more comfortable than sitting. Glad to hear that at 8 weeks things are really settling down.
