PAP after cervix is removed?

Hello Ladies,

I had my final post-op this week following an LAVH with removal of uterus and cervix but kept my ovaries. The dr said everything was healing well and I have no restrictions. I was told that I didn’t need to come back for a year, at which time he would do a pelvic exam and a pap. He said that the decision about whether or not to perform a pap after the cervix is removed is somewhat controversial, especially since I have never had an abnormal result, but it was something he will do routinely for the next few years just to be on the safe side. Has anyone else been told this?

If by pap you mean smear test for abnormal cells here in uk once uterus and cervix removed then you no longer have them here as your not bleeding there is no reason to have them. My mum had her full hysto with everything removed as not had a test in 25 years. I had a TAH with ovaries left and I won't needed them either.

My Dr said just a pelvic exam every year. I had everything removed.

Thats when ur Dr checks your vagina at office ( pelvic exam)

My Dr says that after my last post op appt, only a year rutine checkup and a pap too, and I have cervix remove.....so mine said the same!!!!

Isn't a pelvic exam also when the doctor puts one hand in your vagina and used the other hand to manually press on the outside of your abdomen to feel for ovaries too if you kept them?

Maybe but since I dont have anything in there so I dont know if he is going to do that.....lol

I had my TVH 6 years ago and I still go in for yearly checkups that include a vaginal vault smear instead of a PAP since I don't have my cervix anymore. I never had an abnormal PAP. I still have my ovaries and need to have them checked out, as well as schedule my mammogram, so it's no problem continuing with my 'normal' medical routine each year. Vaginal cancer can, and does occur so it's comforting to know that all is well each year.

Oh I have just googles on a uk health site and it all depends on why surgery was done and what was done for those that had there ops due to cancer needs papa done as do those who still have a cervix but those who had there op for non cancer reasons. And have no cervix and no uterus don't need a pap test at all after there ops
