Are granny panties really needed?

I'm normally a commando girl myself, or wear a thong if I'm in a skirt with no tights. I resisted the whole granny pants notion at first. Then I wondered what I'd do if I needed to wear a pad for discharge. So, now three pair of HUGE pastel granny pants sit in my underwear drawer. ::sigh:: I also got some cute boy short panties (never worn that style before!) in a larger size. I'm having a DvH and those boy shorts can be worn way low. If I don't have much discharge I'll be back to going commando again very soon!

my grannie panties came in handy...im 5wks post op and my stomach is still sensitive to the touch..but I tried wearing my regular ones the other day and the waistband went into my horizontal incision and when I puled it out..it felt like I ripped some skin off...ouch...so now I'm sore again with my incision...ugh...so hats off to the grannie panties...i luv them..lol

Re: Are granny panties really needed?

Ok - I will buy them. I had my pre-op today (surgery is on Jan. 12) and the hospital does not give out binders. Where can I buy one? Is there anything I can buy locally that is similar or can substitute as a binder?

Re: Are granny panties really needed?

My Surg. is Wed as well, I went ahead and bought some bikini underwear but in a size bigger just in case. due to my Abdominal incision my doctor recommended a lower cut underwear and a size bigger. She has already told me she will provide me w/a binder before I leave the hospital. I wish you the best as I know how your feeling right now. hang in there.. We will get thru this..Together!!

Re: Are granny panties really needed?

I think for me it was more about having EXTRA BIG panties. Not so much about them being grannies. Having loose fitting (ie, LARGER than normal panties) was nice because I didn't want anything touching me. It seemed like my regular panties were cutting into my groin even though they weren't. I dont know why it felt like they were but it bugged me.

I sucked up the pride and got a three pack of XL panties. I wear them more often than not now because I still have to wear pads and it is like wearing nothing. Nice thing is that I had a whole 24 hours with spotting two days ago and today might be another such day. Pantyliners will soon be gone!! WOOHOO!!

Re: Are granny panties really needed?

I went to the hospital expecting a TVH and owning only bikini panties. So, of course, I wound up with a TAH and a bikini cut and couldn't wear them. Had to send poor hubby out to the stores to buy granny panties.

Re: Are granny panties really needed?

Those that went commando - what about bleeding? How did you wear a pad - I'm pretty sure they don't make the belted pads anymore

Anyway, should I expect much bleeding? I think I'll go get some pads for the bed - although I know when I had babies, they gave me (or I took from my room) the pads from the hospital.

Re: Are granny panties really needed?

Snoodle, not every one bleeds post-op. Some of us do for weeks, some nothing past the stay at the castle.
