Bladder Sling?

i'm having TVH next tues. I keep seeing these posts about a bladder sling. Do you automatically get one of these. What's it for, etc.

I will be recieving one because my uterus prolapsed and when it did, it also pulled down my bladder (have rectocle too). My Gyno said that I did not have to get the sling but, within a year I would suffer from incontienence more than I do now. The Uro said that SOME ladies who have hyts could have incontinence later.
The sling is to put your bladder back up.

do they do this automatically when you have a hyst or would he have let me know at pre-op appt?

I do not believe a bladder sling would be automatically performed. For me, I had to go through Urodymanics testing, prior to surgery, to dertmine the type of incontinence I had and what would be the best corrective procedure.

Hello, I am new here----I saw my gyn on tues. I too will have a vaginal hysterectomy due to prolapse. After the exam the dr. explained to me that I would be seeing a specialist to do the bladder sling thing-Ha!

My uterus is laying on my uretha and I am not incontinant but after the uterus is gone the urthera will fill the void and the sling is made to support same so as to prevent incontinence in the future.

There is a link here but I don't know where I found it and maybe that sister can reference it for you.

Meanwhile I'll search for it and post back.

You need to ask your doctor if he will be doing that procedure at the time of your hysterectomy--Hope I've helped

I did have to go through testing, too. I don't think they will just give you one. If you are having incontienence you may want to let your gyno know (not saying you do) That way you can get it all done at once. My insurance has a high deductable so I was glad to get everything taken care of at once.
