Driving again?

Hey all, this website is a God-send.....Im due to have a TVH on April 3rd, any clue as to when the doc might allow me to drive again?....I also live alone but plan to stay with my Mom til I can function alone, any kind of idea when that will be?
Thanks so much ahead of time.

Driving again?

Hi,

Driving restrictions seem to vary with each DR. I was cleared to drive at 2 weeks, but didn't until 3 weeks, then it was a short trip, and it was a couple of weeks til I drove again. My reason was brain fog - even though the actual anesthesia is out of your body within a few days, it seems to leave you with a little brain fog for a while. Also while you're taking the heavy duty pain pills you can't drive.

I would have been ok my myself almost immediately, but not to actually do anything, other than short walks around the house, and getting drinks or snacks. Housework, grocery shopping, laundry, actual meal prep - no no no. For the first few days home, whenever I went up or down stairs I made sure my DH was on the downside just in case, and for those days I also didn't shower unless someone was home, again just in case.

Driving again?

Hi, I had a TAH and was allowed to drive after 2 weeks with the following caveats:

1. Car had to be automatic transmission.
2. Not taking the Darvocet prior to driving.

I did fine! But pace yourself. I didn't drive very far. You have to be careful that you aren't woosy.

take good care!

Driving after 2 weeks

My DR told me I could drive after 2 weeks. He was very adamant about that, even though I was off pain meds 2 days post-op. I still wear a pillow under my seat belt though, and probably will till my 6 wk. check up, just in case I was in an accident.

By the way, this surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself. Good luck to you! It'll all be over before you know it!
