How should I eat prior to surgery?

So far my doctor has not suggested any bowel prepping. In order to be better off after the surgery, does anyone have any suggestions about how and what I should eat for the few days prior to surgery? Light? Liquid? Roughage?

Thank you!!

How should I eat prior to surgery?

I know before mine I ate whatever/the usual until the day before. They made me drink this stuff I forget what it was called. But when I took that I did liquids until I could not eat before the surgery. I would call your doctor and see what they say. Did they suggest the enema the morning of?

How should I eat prior to surgery?

My doctor has changed my date several times. I was scheduled for 12/7 or 12/14. Now he has me in for 11/30, but even that won't be confirmed until I call in the morning. I will also ask when I will be able to fit in some time with him to have my lengthy list of questions answered. It's cutting it a bit short here!!

Thanks for your post.

How should I eat prior to surgery?

I think that it all depends upon the tpe of surgery you are having.

I had LSH. For me, it meant no alcohol for 2 weeks prior to surgery...which is tough as I sell wine for a living

Other than that restriction (done due to the fact that alcohol AND aspirin are blood thinners) there were no restrictions until 10 hours pre-op. I was told no food or drink after midnight for a 9AM surgery. Not even a sip of water. Take it seriously. I was amazed that I did not need water during the night as I always seem to take a sip or two while "sleeping"

Bottom line, listen to your Dr.!
