Question about managing without HRT
Due to a history of blood clots, I cannot take any HRT. I even inquired about the herbal kind, and dr told me no. Though I am hoping I will be able to handle it without anything, I am curious if there might be something else I can do.

Question about managing without HRT
Hi,
If you cannot take hrt or herbs, and your symptoms are not easily managed without something, there are medications that the dr can have you try that help a lot of ladies such as yourself.
You can read about alternatives in our Resources library under the No-Hormone section for more information:
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/link.php?
We have a No-Hormone forum called the Oaisis for no hrt help as well :
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/forumdisplay.php?f=34
Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.

Question about managing without HRT
If you are one of the lucky ones like me, you will be okay without it. I am over 2 1/2 months out and, knock on wood, have not experienced menopausal symptoms so far. Before the surgery, I was getting my periods on schedule and no hot flashes. I expected to go into a crashing menopause after coming from the OR and that did not happen. My dr said not all women go through it and ERT is only prescribed if you have symptoms. Do discuss your options with your dr to find out what you can do if symptoms come on and are severe. This surgery is meant to improve your quality of life.

Question about managing without HRT
I just learned something new...
I thought EVERYONE had to take HRT if they had their overies removed
Where do you get your hormones from if you have no overies? Don't you need hormones in your body?

Question about managing without HRT
Your adrenal glands make some hormones and hormones are stored in our fat cells as well.
We are all different, some can go without hrt and some cannot.
It is about our quality of life. I was just too miserable off and herbs did not work well enough for me, so I opted for hrt and it keeps symptoms down to almost nothing.

Question about managing without HRT
Thank you for the links. Dr did tell me some antidepressants may work. However, we are both going to wait and see. Really just want to hear from others as it is comforting and here about other things that I can discuss with my Dr. Knowing more options, I will be able to discuss them further with my Dr in case I have difficulties. All the best to everyone!!!!

Question about managing without HRT
I am going no HRT after surgery. I just don't trust the stuff. If we take hormones we're at risk for health problems, and if we don't we are still at risk...so really what can we do. I feel taking care of ourselves is key important. Get plenty of exercise, weight strength training for bones, take vit c & d...and soy isoflavones for meno symptoms such as night sweats and hot flashes. This is my plan of action going no HRT.
There are also foods that contains natural estrogens, such as apples, barley, beets, carrots, eggs, olive oil, tomatoes to name a few..do a search online for natural estrogen foods and you'll get more detailed lists. Also, eat more antioxidant foods..you can find those online too.
Hysterectomy is not going to be the end, but a new beginning ..a chance to better ourselves health wise and feel good again....it all has to do with a positive attitude and embracing life with joy and ambition. You will do fine. Good luck to you.
Hugs
