3 weeks post hysterectomy, most pain yet!

I basically had zero pain after surgery. I didn't even have my percocet filled when I came home, and of course I just threw out my prescription within the past week. About day 13 I really felt like I was back to normal. I've done some light gardening, taken short walks, etc. I can definitely tell when I've overdone it, and I'll spend the rest of the day sitting down with my feet up.

Yesterday I took my 5 yo son to get a haircut and my 333 lb 2 yo feel asleep, so I carried him in, held him during the haircut, and carried him out. I've basically picked him up and carried him from day one out of the hospital, so this didn't seem like anything over the top. I started cramping and having really odd, sharp stabbing pains kind of all over my abdomen. I'm wondering if it's just normal "healing" pain? Like tissues connecting and such? It's still not terrible, but it's definitely more discomfort than I've had at all through this process. Just wondering if anyone else found their pain levels varying at different times? The sharp, stabbing pains have eased up over the past few hours (I've been sleeping) but I'm still very achy and crampy.

3 weeks post hysterectomy, most pain yet!

Please take it easy. There's no reward for over doing it and looking like a trooper. I'm 8 weeks out and I still get some sharp pains and odd pinching sensations when I thought I was all healed up. I had my 6 week appointment and my doc said I still have stitches on one side and to not over do things even if I feel fine. Take as much time as you need to heal safely and properly, doing too much too soon could prolong your healing process.

When I was discharged from the hospital, the nurse told me to call the doctor if I experienced any "new" pain. If I were you I'd call the doctor. It's possible it's nothing to worry about, but your doctor might want to see you to make sure everything is okay. I hope you feel better soon.

Re: 3 weeks post hysterectomy, most pain yet!

Carrying 33 pounds is a lot for 3 weeks post op especially for the length of time you did. Healing comes in stages. It's not scar tissue forming and continuing to get stronger, but what happens is that earlier scar tissue get replaced by newer scar tissue, and the earlier tissue dissolves. It's a process that happens over and over again. We're likely to feel zaps and zingers when that earlier tissue dissolves - and that's also when we're susceptible to internal tears if we're not adhering to post-op guidelines. You're also in the time frame where stitches may start dissolving, and that may be part of what's happening, too, and that's also a time we could hurt ourselves.

In truth, it's your doctor who should be lifting post op restrictions based upon your healing, not how you personally feel. You've got multiple internal incisions and stitches which could get damaged from doing too much too soon - those are the things you can't see. Check this Post-op Recovery Week 3-4 video.
Rest well, take it easy and adhere to guidelines - Sisters' orders!

Re: 3 weeks post hysterectomy, most pain yet!

Contact your Dr if you are still experiencing pains. We all get it, this recovery is rough, its boring, we all have busy lives & cant just park it...

At week 3, you still should not be lifting. The gardening is stretching it but lifting a 33 lb child now is too much. It has nothing to do with your strength & that you feel well. You had surgery & you need time to heal. Your Dr would be the one to lift restrictions.

For the pains you have now, if you can take ibrophrophen, (I had orescriot 800 mg & adjuated to 400 as needed) that helps with pains & swelling. Ice packs & heating pads. Rest. You dont want a set back which would be pains, swelling & extreme fatigue & possibly bleeding. Which means a few days to even a week easy, out of commission. I had a set back & it kicked me back to week 1. It took 1 week to pull out if it w pains & extreme fatigue. I couldnt stay awake. Feel better!
