LSH versus UAE - I made a decision!

Finally made a decision after a few months of research. I have 3 good sized fibriods and my uterus is enlarged. Heavy bleeding, constant need to pee, bloating, heaviness in lower belly area and can't sleep on my belly !!

Was considering UAE, where they inject tiny-tiny balls of acrylic copolymer into the fibroids for the reason that it blocks the blood flow and the fibroids would shrink & die, but at best, the fibriods would only shrink to maybe 50% and ditto for the uterus. Plus since I would still have a uterus, they could grow back !! and I've read that it may takes many many months to shrink w/ period like cramps.

Decided on supracervical laparoscopic hysterectomy. Only the uterus will be removed with the fibroids. Surgery will be done laparoscopicly, so only 4 small incisions !! With an early morning appointment, I might be able to go home that night and minimal bedrest !! Date is scheduled for July 2nd.

Has anyone else have to make this decision ? What did you choose ? What was your outcome ? Regrets or should have done it sooner ?

THANKS

Leslie

LSH versus UAE - I made a decision!

Hi Leslie,

I also had fibroids and my doctor and I talked about doing an ablation, but he felt it wouldn't be as successful for me and my personal situation. I opted for a TVH and looking back, I do wish I had done it sooner. I had a lot of pain, cramping and bleeding issues, so for me, this was the right decision. I'm now 3 years post-op and fortunately, doing well.

Of course, this is my own personal experience. I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery!

s, Deb

LSH versus UAE - I made a decision!

Hi Leslie,
I considered both procedures as well, and am opting for the LSH, too. Mine is scheduled for next Thursday, the 31st. I have at least one large 12 cm fibroid and constant bleeding and back pain. I am definitely ready for this to be over! Good luck to you!

Hi Fufu,

~Ditto~ what the other ladies replied. I also had a LSH and it is still one of the best things I ever did for my quality of life and general health.
