Pelvic pain: tired and exhausted

Hi I am also new here, trying to find my way... I am very happy to have found hytersisters. I don't feel so alone anymore.

My story is painful & heavy periods periods managed by pain medication. I've been rushed to ER a couple of times due to severe pain. I've had laparoscopy, hysterescopy & D & C. Final diagnosis - Pelvic pain secondary Endometriosis & Adenomyosis.

I am now on Mirena, it's been 7 months but I am still cramping & bleeding most days. The nxt option I received is to try LUCRIN. I read about it & not really sure if I can deal with the side effects. I read that Hysterectomy is the only cure to Adenomyosis. I am really scared to go through Hysterectomy.

I am really tired, exhausted & just want to feel normal again. I'm stuck...don't know what to do.

Pelvic pain: tired and exhausted

Hello, I'm also new here and have had a not too dissimilar journey to yours! I have had horrendous periods throughout my life, and seriously started to consider having a hysterectomy over two years ago. My diagnosis was also Andenomyosis but my surgeon failed to find any proof of this after laproscopy and hystectomy. Incidentally, he also tried me, firstly, on the merena, and it was dreadful! Bled constantly for nearly four months, gained five kilos and a hormonal wreck! So I insisted on having it removed!
Fast forward six months later, and I was back at square one. So I went in for the above lap/hyst and

Not sure what I pressed there, but wanted to finish my story. I am now almost three weeks post op from a vaginal hysterectomy and endocele repair. The bowel and gas pain have been pretty unpleasant but I am sure I've done the right thing for me. Like so many others on this forum, my advice is to not blindly accept one specialist's opinion. Rather, research your options and make an informed choice based on what you find. There are no garantees in anything we do, in life, but you have to weigh up the alternatives. Good luck and I hope you find the best way forward. Kindest regards.

Pelvic pain: tired and exhausted

I recently had a hysterectomy for adenomyosis. I had an ablation 6 years ago which stopped the heavy bleeding but did not correct the adenomyosis. It seems like women go through alot trying to resolve this other than a hysterectomy. I have a feeling you will be releaved once you have the hysterectomy. Sorry you are going through all that.

It sounds like your IUD isn't controlling your adenomysosis pain and that can be very typical. There is only one cure for adeno and that's removal of the uterus.

Just 2 days post op I was already in less pain than I was with the adeno. It was a huge relief to have that deep dull daily ache gone!

My hysterectomy rid me of the daily ache, the horrible menstrual cramps, bloating, gas pain/pressure, diarrhea, tailbone pain, urinary frequency and urgency, and lower back pain. I thought sex felt great before my surgery, but now I realize that it hurt and I had become used to the discomfort.

My 5 year old daughter brought me my heating pad the other day and said "here mommy, I know your tummy will be hurting soon." I teared up when I got to tell her that mommy won't have that tummy pain any more. She asked if that meant that I could play with her now instead of laying on the couch. So, for me to say it's been worth it would be a huge understatement.

I'm 36 and glad I had a hysterectomy. My husband is glad and my children are glad. Now that I'm through with my recovery, I'm exercising again and really enjoying my new life.

So right there with you on this quote! My almost five year-old daughter is always bringing me a heating pad, water, blankie, etc. At 27 years old, it also kills me to not be up and running around with her.

Re: Pelvic pain: tired and exhausted

Kl2012
I had my hysterectomy 12 weeks ago for early stage endo, fibroids and adenomyosis, cysts, and polyps. My endo was stage 1, so not much of an issue yet. My constant pain and almost constant bleeding issues were most likely from my advanced adenomyosis. If you have endo you should see an endo specialist, as I have read on here an hysterectomy doesn't cure endo and you need someone specializing in it's removal to have the best chance of your hysterectomy working on it. I didn't choose alternatives as I was done having my children and was 47. I am very happy I had a hyster and am now blood and pre op pain free. My doctor did a lap surgery with D&C and hysteroscopy 8 weeks prior to my hyster and after she saw the results she strongly suggested hysterectomy. She would not have gone that route without trying alternatives had I been younger and not had my children yet though. All of our situations are different and you and your doctor together can decide what is best for you and your individual situation. I am very happy I had my hyster and wished I had it done 3 years ago when my symptoms started getting to much to bear, but I am glad I already had my kids and they were grown.Good luck to you as you journey through the decision making process. You have come to a great website here for answers and questions!!

Re: Pelvic pain: tired and exhausted

Hi Minke, Nancy231, Abagayle & Aconfused27,
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts & stories with me. I am happy that you all have finally made the big step & right decision. Reading all your stories gave me a lot of hope & courage to go to the nxt step. Wishing you all a speed recovery.

Cathb911, thanks for sharing your story too. My endo was stage 1. My dr did an operation called LAPAROSCOPIC DIATHERMY OF PERITONEUM ENDOMETRIOSIS. MIRENA was inserted as well but isn't working well. Constant bleeding & cramping is not the way to live. LUPRON is my dr nxt treatment option. After reading all the negative feed back about Lupron, not sure if my body can take more pain on top of it.

I am going to see another dr to get a second opinion. I will update you all with my journey.

I am extremely happy that I met you all on HysterSisters.
BIG THANKS!!!

Re: Pelvic pain: tired and exhausted

Hi Ladies,
I'm getting close to the anniversary of my TAH...4 years now. When I was first making my decision, I was really STUCK and TERRIFIED. I know how you feel, KI2012, and I know how it feels post-op...SO much better than before, but there's still healing to do.

So I just wanted to say that my hysterectomy gave me my life back. No more bleeding, cramping, fibroid pain, soaking tampons and pads at the same time, no more swelly belly. All of that suffering...gone. I can do anything I want, pain free! I can wear white pants. Before, I could hardly walk 100 yards without being in miserable pain, and now I'm training for a half marathon.

I want you to know it gets better. A lot better!! While the decision is not an easy one, once you're through it, you will be SO GLAD you took control and changed your life.

Yes, please update us as you make your journey.I am very happy I chose hysterectomy as my way out of the unbearable pain and bleeding. I did not try Lupron or Marena as my doctor didn;t think I was a good candidate for those alternatives and I was 47 and done having kids, so really no reason to try to save the uterus for me. My life is so much better now, even though I am still somewhat recovering.I wish you the best!

Re: Pelvic pain: tired and exhausted

I just wanted to say I don't have answers but I understand. I did get a break from a mirena from pain and my periods were not so heavy but it had to come out for other reasons. The pain started to creep back within 2 weeks and now I've had my first period after the removal one and I've been getting myself upset at the idea of dealing with this pain until Dec. when I see the gyn. and that's when the plan was to schedule the hysterectomy. I want it sooner but don't want to seem like a complainer.
