Re: Husband and son think no big deal surgery
My family is the same way. Since my sister had mastectomy and trans flap reconstruction, everything else is considered minor procedures. I spent 10 days in hospital with my sister and moved in for two months to care for her and my nephew. I know what I went/am going thru can't compare with her experience so I wish they would stop comparing. My DBF won't visit site, but likes to remind me that my emotions are under my control and I should b able to control them. Lol, I am considering killing him!

Aren't you glad you're with an expert on hormones and their direct and indirect influence on behavior patterns? I would so love to read his PhD thesis on the subject. Is it available online?

Re: Husband and son think no big deal surgery
Wouldn't that make it his fault since you are in full control of your emotions, especially when you are having the 1 surgery that will take that control away from you, even if temporarily. Men...LOL

Re: Husband and son think no big deal surgery
LRMC - I have to disagree on the PJs, to a point.
I can understand a woman who was getting poor support at home wearing PJs - I do understand your point about reinforcing social cues about feeling unwell. But I had great support at home, and I hate wearing PJs during the day unless I'm extraordinarily sick. I felt better post-op than I had back in March during a very bad cyst attack. If I had felt completely incapacitated post-op, then I would have stayed in bed. I almost never did.
Wear what you feel most comfortable in.

Re: Husband and son think no big deal surgery
I totally agree, be comfortable.
I was just pointing out a phenomenon that others have also noticed here on the board - that they received more help when they gave those social cues that indicated they were unwell.
Yoga pants are also wonderful and comfortable.
