Coley...

My hubby drove me to the hospital and was with me in the room before surgery. I was very emotional and crying and put a big pillow over my head so he wouldn`t see my tears. He sat there squeezing my hand and watching my chest heave up and down.

He finally asked the nurse how much longer before they took me and she said 45 mins. My hubby went for coffee, I`m sure to get his emotions under control so he could be strong for me. Wouldn`t you know... he no sooner left and they came for me. The operating room was available an hour early. Poor hubby never got to kiss me goodbye before surgery. That bothered him alot.

After surgery I really wanted to see him ASAP. There was some big mixup about what floor I was on and he kept after the desk to find me. My best friend had come to the castle to pace with him so she finally got firm with the desk and they 'found me'. Meanwhile I was calling his cell phone crying for him to come to my room. The hospital rules make you turn the cell phones off and I kept leaving messages. I don`t remember any of this. I was told about it later.

It was my friend who fed me ice chips and got me cold washcloths. It was my friend who held my hand and asked about the pain. It was my friend who got me more pillows and a blanket and got me my socks and a mint to suck on. It was my dear hubby who stood at the end of my bed, white as a sheet, silent as he has never been before.

I was comforted to see him, but it was my friend I needed. Your plan sounds like the best solution for you both. You are so wise to think of this alternative.

Okay girlie girls ---- I decided what to do w/DH

I was so emotional this past week!!! I sufferrred ALONE during the night as a cyst ruptured! I started up the stairs to wake my husband, but I didn't want him to see me AGAIN in such pain. Although this time it had been worse than any other time. I knew he definately would have called an ambulance, and My mother and sister at 2:00am, so I decided to pull through myself. He really shocked me the next day when he arranged for a babysitter and came w/ me to the doctors. He asked my doctor so many questions, and for the first time I actually heard my doctor laughing! Anyways, we scheduled the hysterectomy and on the drive home I cried my heart out!!!! I told my husband that I was so afraid I might lose him after all this CRAP was over w/!!! He assured me that he would NEVER leave me and he just wanted me to get better! I think finally after 10 years of all of this, he finally realizes what Ive been going through!!! My only fear of my upcoming surgery is.......Being away from my husband and 2 daughters for 3 nites or so!!!!! Everything else will be smooth sailing Im sure!!!

DH

Hi - I'm fairly new to this site and am so relieved I found it! My DH is really a sweetheart - went with me to the dr. when I finally decided I was ready to make surgery arrangements and has been really supportive - to a point - he thinks that since all the arrangements are made, there's not much left to discuss - we'll just go to the hospital, I'll have my surgery,, come home in a couple days, lay around and recuperate and all will be well. Now, I know this surgery is what I need (Large fibroid, 20-22 week pregnancy size uterus, lots of pain, bloating, pressure) but I still feel I'm losing part of me. Funny, cause I'm 52 and won't ever use those parts again, but they're still my parts!! Am very grateful I found this site -- it really helps to talk to other women and hear their opinions, feelings, etc. Anyway, I do know that DH will be there in his own way -- I should know him pretty well after 29 years together! Thanks for listenting

Jane Elizabeth
