Hi everyone. It seems like an eternity since I was last on here with you guys. Here is my story.
I had my surgery May 7. I had a complete hysto. They took the uterus, cervix, overies all due to severe endo. I had very painful periods, which along with pain meds I could have endured, but I could not have sex with my husband because of the pain and that was not good. I had had several laps. After the endo returned yet again and since furtility was not any longer a concern (had secondary infertility due to the endo, in fertility treatment for four and half years, two years ago adopted a baby girl) My doctor suggested a hysto. Got a second opinion. Decided enough was enough. Had horrible panic attacks days before the surgery. AND IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE LOVELY LADIES ON THIS BOARD, I JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE OR WHERE I WOULD HAVE GONE.
the surgery went very well. I was on the morphine drip for the first 24 hours. That was just lovely. Kept me pain free and in la-la land. When they came to take me off it I said to the nurses, "just let me push it one more time." They both laughed. I was not kidding. The second day was difficult. They want you to get up and walk and that was hard. But I did it and then I did it again. Going to the bathroom after the cath was taken out was not fun at all. But I got through that too. Came home from the hospital on day four. I am blessed. I had a lot of family help and being the big baby that I am I needed it. My husband took several days off. The first full week home I had a women come to stay with me primarily to take care of my two year old. She did a lot of other helpful things too. I should have planned for her to come for two weeks though.
My doctor started me right away on the estrogen replacement and I have to say I feel great about that. I have not had any menopausesal symptoms and I feel like myself, emotionally speaking. I am so glad about that.
At this point physicaly I am doing okay. I have good days and then not so good days. my tummy is still sore, it is painful going to the bathroom still, both urinating and bm, I get tired easily still and sometimes at night I am a little uncomfortable. Tummy is still swollen. But compared to last week I am 100% better. All in all it is not bad. I feel good. I am happy I am behind it and on the road to recovery. Although today I found out my girl friend is pregnant with her fourth and I got a little pang of self pity going for awhile. And then as if by magic, a get well basket came to the door and it made me feel better.
If anyone has any questions or concerns about what it was like I would be more than happy to help you, to tell you all that i can from my experience. You can email me anytime, I'll try to get back asap.
Sorry for being a little wordy. Take care all of you. You are in my prayers each and every night. You'll all be fine and it will all work out. I truly believe in the power of prayer. God bless you all and good luck.
Love, LIZ

Hi Liz,
I am recently new to this site, but reading everybodies tales really helps me. I am petrified of being put to sleep for surgery. I have had 2 C-sections and I came through that fine with being put to sleep. Just normal I guess. My DR told me he has never lost anyone yet! Comforting thought!!!
Anyway, it was good to read your story. It really helps! I'm sure I'll be fine! Just can't wait to get it over with. And 4 weeks after it is over I am going on vacation. Something to look forward, just sitting on the beach and relaxing! Take care and get better soon!

Princess Liz
Welcome home, Liz! So glad to hear your castle stay went well and that you are recovering nicely. That is great someone could help you so much your first week at home. Hope you still can get enough rest now, and can listen to your body to not overdo. I'm glad you are feeling so good with your HRT, too. Take it easy, and we'll see you on the post op board soon. s and best wishes!

Glad to hear you are doing well. I looked for a post from you "after the fact" because you had expressed a number of concerns in a post before the surgery. It also helps me to see that everything wasn't so bad so I can prepare myself for my surgery (date not set yet). I'm glad you are feeling better every day. Yes, it is hard when we find out someone is having a baby. I decided several years ago that I didn't want anymore children but every now and then I get those pangs. I don't think they will ever go away but it isn't as bad as it once was - especially because God blessed us with a beautiful daughter - who we adopted.
Best to you,
Didi

Hi Liz!
I was worried about the anesthesia too. But the anesthesiologist came to see me just before I was wheeled off to OR and he said that he was adding what they like to call the "I don't care drug" to my IV. Well, before the word drug came from his mouth, the meds hit me and I was smiling like never before. In fact, I felt so dumb, I laughed and smiled all the way to OR. I think it was the funniest thing now. The nurse in the OR introduced herslf and I laughed. That's the last thing I remember.
I am sure that you will do just fine. I wish you well.
And don't forget to ask for the "I don't care drug."

Liz,
So nice to hear your experience. I'm happy for you that all went well and recovery so far is as to be expected. I've just finished doing alot of research on endo, thinking I might have it also, and I'm sure you must have had an extensive surgery.
Take it nice and slow...by the way, did they send any of that
" I don't care drug," home with ya??
