3 weeks post hysterectomy: Discouraged in recovery

3 weeks post TVH. Had complications at 1 week post op landing me in the hospital for 2 days. Felt better until this past Saturday and pain hit me like a Mac truck again. Went to my dr yesterday and they found that my ovaries are 3x normal size as well as other swelling. Muscles traumatized from surgery still, and s cyst likely ruptured causing most of the pain. However this evening going pee left me in tears (sobbing) for 2 hours, even with pain meds!?! I spoke to the dr on call who advised me I can double up on pain meds but if no relief they will be admitting me again, so I'm trying to just tough it out at home so I can be here with my kids. They don't know why my ovaries are so big all of a sudden, or if that's why I'm having so much pain again. I've had cysts burst before and this is worse. I feel like a total wimp and know I'm not. I gave birth to a 9lb baby and 7lb baby without pain meds and this is killing me. I've found I'm trying not to drink much so I don't have to potty much because it's a lot worse when I pee. I hate the pain meds, the way they make me feel and my fear of addiction, and they haven't even taken then edge off when I doubled up as the on call dr told me to. Feeling really discouraged right now. I know this was the best decision I ever made but just need to be healed and out of this extreme pain.

Re: Discouraged in recovery

I am so sorry that you're in so much pain. I haven't had too much pain w my hysterectomy, but I don't think what you're experiencing is normal. Any kind of pain that is not relieved by double mess cannot be good. Can you go to the ER?

The dr on call did tell me if doubling the pain meds didn't work to go to the ER and they'd admit me. Or if I was nauseous or vomiting or fevers again. The double pain med let me sleep about 2-3 hours and I was doubled over crying again. At 5:30 this morning I started vomiting and now dry heaves. I have to go back and see my dr in 3 hours, but honestly don't know what they can do for me.

That is not normal. I hope they investigate further into what the cause is! Demand testing like CT or MRI or blood work to check what's really going on internally! Don't let them send you home w more drugs! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.

I had my appointment today at 1:45, he stuck his head in at the nurses desk when he seen me and after asking a few questions he told the nurse to get a ct scan scheduled asap. When they got me in a room he did an exam of my abdomen and checked where the pain is and such, and went over a few things then told me he was ordering the ct scan and would let me know as soon as the hospital could do it. They offered me cook rags, heating pad, and a place to lay while I waited on scheduling. He also switched to a different pain med and nausea med to being home. And told me to stop trying to be super woman and take the pain meds on schedule for a few days and not let it get ahead of me. They got a crush scan set up but it took a long time to get worked in. He gave the hospital orders to call his cell phone as soon as they had results ready. After several hours of waiting at the hospital they got it done (and throwing up that drink they give you). They called him and he requested to speak to me to explain things to me himself tonight. Apparently the blood clot/hematoma I developed a week post op, has now developed an abscess of infection in it. As well as seeing some adenomyosis in a muscle and lots of swelling still. He did agree to let me come home and start oral antibiotics again tomorrow, if they don't work I'll be admitted for IV antibiotics again. Thankful they found the issue again! Idk how there's infection again sense I've had so many antibiotics since surgery, but so glad to have an answer and work on fixing it!

That all sounds awful and I truly feel for you and hope you get relief from the new meds. I may be mistaken but isn't adenomyosis in your uterus, which is now gone??

Adenomyosis is generally all contained to your uterus, my understanding from my dr last night is that there is some that is in a muscle that was around the uterus (endometriosis became andenomyosis when is moved into a muscle? Not positive but will get clarification at my follow up Tuesday). The meds have me very out of it. Hubby took kids to school and brought home breakfast and I kept "hearing my phone ring" but it wasn't lol

Re: 3 weeks post hysterectomy: Discouraged in recovery

I'm glad that they found the cause of the pain and that the change in meds has allowed you to sleep some. If things don't improve for you, don't hesitate to call your doctor back or go to the ER. You are your own best advocate and you know best when something is wrong with your body. Prayerfully the antibiotics will work and you can heal with no further complications.
