Poll: How much did your hysterectomy cost in the United States?

My procedure, hospital stay, and anesthesia were $14k for an abdominal removal including ovaries. I paid $500. I continue to be amazed at the range of price for similar procedures, but grateful for insurance.

Just figured up all my insurance statements regarding my procedure. I had a LAVH and for my pre op apt, pre op blood work, hospital stay and use of surgical facility (almost $21,000 ), surgeon, surgeon assistant, anesthesiologist, and pathology my insurance was billed $29,875.75 and I ended up paying $1,063.58. Of course the insurance reimbursed all the bills at a lower rate because I used an in-state provider.

My procedure was done in Morgantown, WV.

Free. I already hit my $1000 catastrophic cap for the year. So grateful to have military health insurance.

I don't have insurance, but the self pay fee for a TVHS is $9600 ... and about 3k more if they end up doing a TAH.
Scheduled for 9/27, soooo looking forward to it.

My hysterectomy cost 26,000 and 27,000 for BSO. CRAZY what they charge!

The charges to my insurance company for my hysterectomy and repairs with surgeon, surgeon's assistant, anesthesia, pathology, and all the hospital charges for 6 hours in surgery, 1.5 hours in recovery and 30 hours in the hospital was $140,000.00. The insurance discounted what they paid. I paid my $6500.00 deductable.
My second surgery for additional prolapse and repairs, was about 1.5 hours, with about 1 hour recovery and a 24 hour stay. It looks like the charges will be about $60,000.00 to my insurance, but I pay nothing this time as it is in the same year's deductable. The bills are still coming in.

Hi I have a fibroid rumor that’s 2cm for about 2 years now. I went for the presurgery consult yesterday and spoke with my insurance co.
I’m afraid it’s going to be too expensive to have the hysterectomy done under my plan with <>Insurance.
$4000 deductible and $6350 out of pocket. My short term disability for the recovery doesn’t even start until I’ve been off work for 2 weeks and then they only pay 60% base pay. I’m a single mom and have been having very painful heavy cycles. I’m so disappointed. I may just have to deal with it and pray that one day I’ll have better insurance.

Christine, I am so sorry that the costs are an issue. I can truly empathize with you.

When I had my surgery, I had great coverage and only paid $1,100 out of pocket.

Fast forward to last year, with two ER visits and an endoscope for high BP and a possible ulcer, and I found myself in debt to the hospital for $7000. I was laid off in July and applied for financial aid from the hospital. Thankfully, they dismissed my debt to them, which I had paid down to $2000.

According to my insurance company's explanation of benefits, the surgical center billed $68,000(!) for a one-hour hysterectomy with no overnight stay, my surgeon billed $10,000, and the anesthesiologist billed about $1,500. I'm not sure how much of all this I'll have to pay yet.
