Hi Ladies -

I am facing a possible (probable) BSO with my LAVH in April. I am 37, and have stayed away from hormones because of increased risk of DVT, stroke, heart attack (you know, all the wonderful 'side effects' of taking hormones that we hear about). However, I also heard that if you do not take HRT, your life span is decreased because you are more prone to heart disease and osteoporosis (6 on one side a half a dozen on the other). Any advise for or against? Thanks.

From what I hear It's best to use Bio-identical hormones, in the lowest dose, for the shortest time. I think that is what I will do.

Best wishes,

I've been on HRT since day after surgery & haven't had a chance to research all of it yet but I agree it seems a crap-shoot either way (very frustrating). I plan to discuss more options with my Dr. this week & I'll let you know if I discover more info. I'm also not thrilled with taking HRT but did notice the day I forgot to take it I was very emotional, irrational and felt very out of control - it was like PMS'ing times 10. For me, I needed to get through my recovery before I could think about HRT. Good luck w/ your upcoming surgery

Hi,

On april 6th I'm having a TAH BOS for ovarian mass and adnormal bleeding. I at 49 am already post menopausal, and can tell you that I have decided to take HRt, I'll be taking estrogen and tester since the cervix will be removed as well For me this is the best choice, can't deal with the hot flashes mood swings depression and maybe bone loss as well as other problems. My suggestion do research speak to your doctor and make the best decision for you. At 35 maybe it's a good idea to take it if just for a little awhile. Good luck with your surgery mine is on April 6th.

I am only 44 years old and had everything out except cervix. My doc put me on Vivelle Dot. I put the patch on the day of surgery and I don't know if it has anything to do with how I recovered, but it has been great. Sleeping well and I think so clear. Hopefully it will continue.

My doc does want to wean me off the HRT at a later date; not sure when though.

My Dr. will use the patch also at first. I don't know which one but she uses bio identicals. My DH said it all sounds like magic potion and there really isn't a cut and dry dose or formula. I think that is true, I think you have to expriment and find out which works best for you. I think a patch would bug me but we'll see. I am going to do like Hei and get through the surgery and then worry about that. It has taken me 5 weeks to get okay with the surgery, I don't know how many it will take to figure that out! I just want to be able to get my life back and not be someone different.

Vivelle Dot is a hormone replacement patch. I change it twice a week. It is only about an inch big and is clear. I forget that it is there. I was really worried about surgery and the HRT so I understand where you are coming from.

You will get your life back. It is so wonderful to finally be rid of the pain and I cannot wait until I can "get back out there" and really enjoy my life.

I hope the best for all of you too. It WILL get better!
