what is pre-0pt.?

HI AGAIN;
What is pre-opt? Is it a appointment with your doctor doing the surgery before the surgery? Cause my doctor has not yet told me if or when I should see him again before the surgery...he just told me what he is doing and when.....that is all I know right now...I figure I got to go get "blood work" done before surgery?

Pre Opt can be different depending on where you live or your doctor. I live in Ontario Canada. I have to see my regular doctor not the doctor doing the surgery. They will weigh me, blood pressure and I had to fill out some forms about my social status. Married, finacial situation will someone be home with me etc. Then I have to go to the hospital to go over more forms and they will answer any of my questions and then take some blood. All this information is given to the surgeon so he knows what is going on with me prior to my surgery date.

I am also in Canada in Nova Scotia, and mine was a little different than Caths, so it really does seem to vary from area to area.

I actually didn't see any of the doctors that would be involved in my surgery at my pre-op.
I went to the registration area and did the paperwork part, and then I went to see a nurse who gave me the information on what would take place when I first arrived at the castle the morning of surgery. She also gave me my little "bag of goodies" for bowel prep for the night before.

Then I met with an anthesiologist, ( not the one that I had), and he checked my lungs and asked about any allergies and family illness history and things like that.

I had alot of blood work done prior to that visit so they didn't take anymore at pre-op with me, although I have read here where some ladies do have blood work done that day.

I found it really informative and I was quite relaxed throughout it. They seem to pick wonderful medical staff to do these pre-op visits and they really understand our fears and concerns and mine at least were willing to spend as much time with me as I wanted.

I am in Canada as well. I had an appointment with my surgeon this week to go over any questions I had, and sign consents. I have an appointment at the hospital on Friday for more paperwork and bloodwork. Joy, Joy.
