I posted on the Newbie board about feeling a little out of place because I was actually quite excited about having my hysterectomy. I'm actually planning a bon voyage party to bid adieu to my uterus. We will all wear red, there will be red snacks and red drinks - like bloody mary's. I'm so excited about it - I'm giddy. I am not trying to down play the seriousness of this major surgery in any way - I just am so ready to be done with these awful periods and bleeding. I am currently bleeding through Provera and bc pills. 5 days on Provera - and bleeding the whole time. Bleeding through every bc pill on the market - bleeding a Mirena IUD right out of my uterus. Bleeding for 10 weeks straight! I'm just so done.

So I have more details - a TAH leaving my ovaries in tact on March 12 at 7:00am.

I am wondering if there are any ladies out here who have PCOS and who have had their ovaries left in tact or who opted to have their ovaries out - why or why not? I'm just feeling like why bother leaving them? They don't work right in the first place! Just looking for opinions.

This has been such an incredibly great sight. I came with so many questions and when I went to the pre-op section I got almost all of them answered just by reading most of the articles there. This is just the best - most well organized site out there.

Also - one more question - my bedroom is on the second floor. Now I've had 2 c-sections - but when I did I lived in a ranch - so no stairs. I'm thinking going upstairs to my room is going to be a no-go for a while. Any thoughts? I'm thinking I need to either buy a recliner - or borrow my mom's and maybe camp out in that for a while? I have a half bath downstairs - so I won't be able to shower down here - I would have to go upstairs for that - but if I only did it every couple of days - that might work. What do you think?

OK - that's all for this post - thanks so much ladies - you rock!

Ask your doc about stairs. My doc said stairs once a day, no more, for the first week. So I had my dh bring up fruit in a bowl, and a thermos of soup, and food in a cooler, stuff like that, when he wasn't going to be around during the day (He was there until a week after mysurgery). I would rather be close to the bathroom than the bedroom!
And I joined the family for dinner.
After a week I could do more stairs--freedom!
However, a recliner might be easier to get in and out of than a bed--I borrowed a husband pillow and put that on my bed so I was kinda reclining all the time.
You definitely need to plan how to handle the stairs, but that can be either staying on the level with the full bath or the kitchen. OH...I just remembered...your doc will probably tell you to take showers and run hot soapy water over your incision to keep it clean--so you need to get near that full bathroom regularly!

Loved your party idea. I too, have a "Coming OUT" party planned. Although after ready much of the posts & articles, I am rethinking a few plans. I had originally wanted to keep my cervix & overies (surgery is because of fibroids, and bleeding - despite the ablation I had two years ago). But it seems keeping the cervix, may mean I could have a bit of monthly bleeding (no way) I will also await replies on your questions regarding the overies. I didn't know many of the things I have been experiancing over the years may be due to PMDD. I just thought I had "issues" and needed to suck it up. Wow! There may be relief...I have a call in to my Doc to go over these new findings.
My surgery is currently scheduled for 3/18

Re: stairs--my doctor never mentioned them. When I asked the nurse in the hospital if i'd be able to go up and down when I got home following a TAH, she said "I don't see why not." Okay, good enough for me. I went up and down the stairs multiple times every day, beginning the day I got home. No problems at all.

I have endo and PCOS. Usually the two go hand and hand but my doctor said that since mine produce cysts that rupture like land mines that he would prefer to have them removed. I had a friend pass away at the age of 26 from cervical and ovarian cancer so my husband and I decided to take that risk out of my equation!

I love your positive attitude! I'm having my TAH/BSO five days after my 30th birthday, my birthday present to myself, and having a twenties themed party for my 30th. What a better way to celebrate than to dress up as a flapper! Goodbye pain of my twenties and hello the freedom of my 30's!!
