Re: 14 days TAH/BSO Dense Adhesions

Many thanks to all of you that have posted a reply. I wrote this post about a week ago and finally figured out how to get in the right spot. Tomorrow makes 3 weeks. I do feel better. My blood counts are starting to rise. I seen in my op report where he said there was significant bleeding from the adhesions and endo on my omentum. I am still taking the Norco but not as often. I relly think my constipation could be due to the manipulation of the bowel during the resection of the adhesions. I did find an herbal med for stools, Cascara Sagrada. Works rather well, has caused a little cramping but is well worth it when you haven't poo'd for a week. I see the Dr. again tomorrow. Will post again soon.

My surgeon stated he has a pretty tough time because of all of the adhesions on my bladder and colon. I did take me almost two days to pee on my own and have not had a bm yet without the assist of 1 fleets enema. But even though the pain has decreased, I continue to have significant pain on my left side. my post op blood counts were 6.8 and 20.0. I am tired and in pain. I feel like a druggy every time I asked for pain meds. Help! I have been taking Norco 10mg every 4- 6 hours. My surgery took 5 1/2 hours due to all of the adhesions on my colon, bladder and in my pelvis. He said everything was just all stuck together. Anyone else with these issues?
I had an almost identical experience. Boy was I surprised to wake up in recovery over 5 hours later with 3 holes and a 12 inch incision across my abdomen. I was severely constipated for a few months leading up to the surgery and still struggle with this issue today. I am 26 days post op. A nurse taught me a trick of pouring myself a tall mug of prune juice and microwaving it for 2 full minutes. This works and has become quite a treat. I also met with a nutrition specialist while in the hospital. She adised that I also strive to add raw fruits, vegetables, leafy greans, and foods that are high in fiber to my diet every day. My surgeon also recommended a follow up exam with a colon specialist. He said that my colon appeared to be swolen in spots and I may have diverticulitus. I sincerely hope that that is not the case, because that would mean more surgery! I tell you this... because you may want to ask questions arounsd these areas, as there may have been some damage to your colon because of teh adhesions.
I wish you luck. I know that this is a painful experience, but we need to remain positive.
