Emotional

There's so much running through my mind. I don't know if the emotional up and down is normal. My surgery is this Thursday and I'm ok with what happens from here on out, I think. Yet I found myself thinking this is a big deal and I am more than over whelmed. Is this normal, the emotional up and down?

Re: Emotional

It is totally normal. The fear of the surgery, the recovery, the loss, even if it is something we want to resolve long term issues. It is all part of the process. We're all here for big (((hugs))) and support xxx

Re: Emotional

My surgery is this Tuesday. I'm counting down the hours so it can just be done already! I wake up thinking about how easy it is to get up versus how it will feel after Tuesday and go to sleep after making love to my husband just praying for quick recovery. I pray the time will pass quickly for you.

Re: Emotional

Very normal! I went through that too before my surgery. I am four weeks post op and so glad I did this! I feel great! Waiting is the worst part. I am the biggest chicken when it comes to things like this and I did great. Best decision I ever made! You can do this! We all go through a lot of emotions before something like this and always able to pull through.

Re: Emotional

Hi there, I am 6 weeks out and my emotions are still on a roller coaster it seems. The hormones play a huge role in this post op but even before surgery I was an absolute mess. The waiting is the worst part. My best advice to you is to stay busy, ready your home and recovery area, enjoy things that you won't be able to for awhile (children, shopping,sex...etc) and remember to stop a minute and just breathe. I don't know what all your reasons are for the hysterectomy, but can assure you that this waiting time is the most horrible part. Your emotions will likely get a hold of you after surgery as well...hormone related a lot of it..but also from pain, not being able to do what you are use to...having to ask for help...etc...this is major surgery and the recovery is tough, I will not lie, but you will be OK!!! Enjoy everything you can now and the busier you keep the better you will be. I purposely left many things til the last minute so the 3 days before surgery I was run off me feet...however this was tiring, it didn't leave a lot of time for worrying. Your health care team is more than capable of caring for you, put your trust in your surgeon to make you well again and you take care of yourself until the time comes. Stay out of the post op forums as well. Most woman soar through this with no issues at all and have uneventful recoveries, however some have troubles and the post op forums will just scare you...so stay away from there is my best advice. We will see you on the other side, where you will be making new blood instead of flushing it down the toilet....bless you and sending you strength and prayers...it will be OK and so will you.....much love and hugs

This isn't necessarily true. Most women recovery with few or no complications, but for those who do have complications, waiting may not be the hardest part. We have a Hystersisters article on this subject which you might want to read. You can find it here:

Article - Is Waiting the Hardest Part of a Hysterectomy?

You will be doing yourself a disservice if you don't visit the Post Op forums. Consider it part of your research. In the years that I've been here I've read many posts by recoving ladies saying, "why didn't anyone tell me this could happen?" You need to know both the upside and the downside of a hysterectomy. There are many women who have had surgery without doing their homework, only to wind up wishing they had never gone through with it. You're right. A hysterectomy is a big deal and you wouldn't be normal if you weren't at least a bit worried.

Most likely all will be fine, but you have to leave yourself open to the possibility that there could be short or long-term complications. That's why a hysterectomy should be done only as a last resort.

Wishing you all the best.

Re: Emotional

This is a last resort. I have lots of questions for pre-op thanks to the site. I appreciate the support here and the honesty. I'm really thankful to know that the emotions are normal.

Catherine does give good advice here..you should do your homework, absolutely!!!! It was my "personal experience" that led me away from the post op forums (I should have said that in my first post). I went there while waiting for surgery, but the more I read the more my anxiety grew. I personally could not spend time in the post op forum, but if you can, by all means there is a lot of information for you there. This site is fabulous in so many ways, every type of information you need...is here!!! Keep reading and asking questions, that's what hystersisters is all about and we are all here to see you to the other side of this...wishing you all the best...hugs
