UTI...worse after CIPRO

I went to the Doctor and she diagnoised me with a UTI infection..I had NO symptoms at all... I went to have a routine urine test done and was called 2 days later and told I had an infection and was put on Cipro..well I took the last pill Monday..and to be honest I feel worse now..i have this constant urge to urinate..the pressure etc..its awful..I also took some cranberry pills but quit those Monday too ...Im wondering if my bladder is just irritated..or may be I just didnt take enough of the antibiotic???Im not running a fever or burning, I just wish this urgency would stop, can anyone relate to this or have any suggestions..Thanks sooo much Tina

Tina,

I too am on CIPRO however I do have all the symptoms of a UTI. I've been on CIPRO and AZO for two days and I really haven't seen much of an improvement. I'm sorry I wasn't much help just thought I would share my experience.

Re: UTI...worse after CIPRO

I'm 4 wks post op, 8 days post op I ended up in the ER could barely walk the pain was so bad. My percocet & motrin didn't help. Turns out that I had a UTI, they gave me cipro. Even after I finish all the antibiotics I still had the frequent urge to urinate. I still had the annoying burning sensation. Within a few days I was feeling better.
-Tina I would call your dr office and let them know your still having problems you need something different. Take care

Re: UTI...worse after CIPRO

Copro is a first line drug that doctors give for a uti. I have had several uti's in my life, and Cipro has never worked on one. If you have taken a full tx and it didn't help, you need to ask for a culture and sensitivity test on your urine. They send it off and grow your bacteria to see which antibotics will kill it. I simply don't understand why they don't do that the first time, but doesn't happen.
Azo standard or any other OTC urogesic will help with the burning and pain or spasms you mat be having until the antibotics kick in.

Re: UTI...worse after CIPRO

When I went to the Doc I felt fine..now after taking the Cipro I feel like I worse ...the only symptom that I have though is the urgency to urinate..wonder if the Cipro interferes with the estrogen and the bladder is irritated..I do have a Doc appt in the morning.. but hystersisters always seem to be able to relate and give good advice..so keep the opinions coming! Thanks Tina
