Two weeks before stitches are removed after hysterectomy?
I had my LAVH on June 11th and my Dr glued the bottom two incisions and put three stitches in the incision in my belly button. Hubby had back surgery Tuesday and had 14 staples put in his back. He was told to come in in a week to have them taken out so I got to wondering about my stitches. I called my Dr and the nurse called me back this afternoon. She told me they'd remove them next week when I come in for my two week check-up. I've never heard of stitches being left in for two weeks..... They were starting to cut into my skin and I talked to our EMS neighbor tonight and she agreed that they should come out. Now I get to explain to my Dr next week why they're gone....I sat on the couch tonight with scissors and tweezers and pulled them out. Two came out nice, one was stuck a bit and hurt a little. The glue fell off my bottom incisions three days ago.

Each Dr. must have a different timeline. I had six incisions with one stitch each. My instructions were to have the stitches removed on day 4. I had them taken out and all was well.

Re: Two weeks before stitches are removed after hysterectomy?
I had my stitches removed one week after surgery. I had two lower incisions on either side and one in my belly button. My left side and belly button incisions did okay after stitches were removed, but my right one came back open that night and required steri strips for three more weeks to get it healed and closed back up. I wish they would have left them at least a few more days. It was a pain getting the open one healed which might have been prevented if the stitches had stayed just a bit longer.

I keep hearing about people having their staples removed in days. I'm supposed to have mine for 14 days.

Re: Two weeks before stitches are removed after hysterectomy?
It's interesting that every Dr has different ideas on what's 'right'. I wish my Dr had used glue on my belly button incision - the lower two are almost impossible to find now so there's virtually no scar. My belly button incision got all bunched up with the stitches so now there's a lump of skin that probably won't go away.
I'm also finding that even the nurses have different opinions. Several of the spots where I had skin tags removed are weepy, sore, and infected looking. Last week the nurse I talked to said to NOT use antibiotic ointment or cover them but to use cornstarch on them. I talked to a different nurse today and she said to use antibiotic ointment and to cover them! She said if they still look bad at my appt next week I may have to take an antibiotic. So, now I get to go wash them with antibacterial soap and have hubby doctor them (I don't have enough hands plus I can't see).
