Scheduling hysterectomy today
Hi everyone, I haven't posted besides my intro here mainly because I have been in such shock/denial still. Today is the day to schedule the hysterectomy and I am very nervous. I have prepared my list of questions (the one from this site and my own) I am not able to have anyone with me unfortunately but I am going to ask my doctor if it's possible I also audio record our appointment as I take notes. I had therapy earlier today so I feel as though emotionally I have talked through a lot which is good. I am wondering a few things, any of you who have limited support for post op, very limited and 2 kids (4 &9) how did you prepare for post op? I have read a lot on here and I will do as much as I can but I am also a full time student as well. I am hoping to have the surgery during winter break but it really depends on the pathology that he is going to show me today from the last two biopsies.
I also have mental illness and am treated by a psychiatrist who is aware of surgery coming up soon and my therapist I mentioned before. My OBGYN believes it is in my best interest to remove my ovaries (I am 32 and have a tubal) but I am worried about how HRT will effect my mental health. I had a tubal because of many GYN diseases and how hormones effect my mental status.
I guess I'm just super duper nervous. I know this needs to be done but I am scared of all the unknowns. I guess I am mainly venting but wondering about mental health and removal of ovaries and using HRT and also balancing your home life after surgery with no family living in the area, it's me and my boyfriend with our kiddos and his mom.

Scheduling hysterectomy today
Hi Trixie
Girl, you are not alone on this one. Within 3-4 months of finding huge fibroids I was finding out I needed a hysterectomy. I met with 2 surgeons, my psych nurse practitioner (who had just been through a hysterectomy), and I had my surgery on 6/20. I had an ultrasound done this morning to rule out ovarian cyst. It's an emotional rollercoaster but you're going to be okay. Once you have that date set you can focus on getting you, your family, and your mind ready. I have bipolar and generalized anxiety. It's not easy, but you are in the right place and the hystersisters will give you so much love and support it will amaze you. If you have any mental health questions from a patient perspective you can feel free to ask me. My psych nurse showed me so much support it was amazing. Bless you and let us know how it goes!

Re: Scheduling surgery today
Hi Trixiestardust to HysterSisters!
I am so glad you found this site.
You certainly have much on your plate. I cannot help you with the mental health questions, but can answer other questions for you.
Keep in mind that this is MAJOR SURGERY, and no matter the type, you will have much internal healing to do. Recovery time is different for everyone, but you still need to think in terms of weeks and not days. You will have a hard time concentrating after surgery for several weeks, so your studies can definitely be impacted. You will need help around the house with cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry, shopping, driving, etc. You will also need help with your little ones. Here are articles that may provide information:

As much as your boyfriend and his mom can help out would be very good. Can he stay with you? Or can she?
Here is some information on surgical menopause:

Re: Scheduling hysterectomy today
Thank you both for your responses. I have reviewed those articles and will make sure to come back to them closer to surgery.
Pathology from the colop showed two high grade lesions at 10 and 3 and then the endocervical biopsy was also high grade. My GYN said that from the two first lesions themselves it warrants a hysterectomy with my history but now that it is extending further into the cervix it is definetely time to do some treatment.
I asked him how long in his opinion/preference I could wait on this surgery and he said no more than 6 months, I also asked him if he is still considering me pre-cancer and he said I have nothing to worry about until he is worried which he said he is not at this point. I got out to my car and went over the pathology report again and it said in my associated diagnosis HGSIL or Carcinoma. I am wondering why it says carcinoma at all on my path report AND why my doctor was so adamant on my surgery needing to be no more than 6 months out. I honestly felt like we were discussing cancer without saying it. I think I'm just nervous.
I know that many women have the LEEP again at this point, I have had two and I don't have enough cervix that if he did another and it didn't come back with clear margins and THEN I would still need hysterectomy and he couldn't do it vaginally at that point so I feel as though I'm in limbo waiting for any other pathology until surgery when others have it before with the LEEP.
He has not referred me to GYN/ONC at this point and that's not really common here in my area so I am going by his personal opinion and what I've read here. Do you guys have any insight or any other threads you know that would be beneficial for me to read? Thank you!
