Looking pregnant when I'm not

My doctor tells me that I have a fibroid in my uterus that is the size of a 3-month pregnancy. I actually look pregnant, but am not. My doctor also says that a hysterectomy may or may not help the "bulge" I have; no guarantees. Has anyone else experienced this, and what did you do? Did it help? Thanks.

I'v been there...

Hi, I know how you feel! I started noticing a bulge in that area and I was due to have a yearly exam and told them about it.First the NP thought I was Pregnant! After a sonogram was done, I found out that I a fibroid the size of a big grapfruit. It was grwing out the back and to the side of my uterus! So I did not look as "pregnant"but I could definantly feel it to the touch. I chose to have a hysterectomy and Im glad I did. I did discuss the options of a myometomy and had heard of uterine artery embolization; an option for not so big fibroids. By the time surgery came around It had grown. After all was said and done the fibroid was the size of a honeydew melon and weighed 7 lbs!!!! I am about 7 months post op and I have noticed that if I over do my muscles I do get "swollen " feeling. Im only 30 and quite young and now that Im starting to exercise,Im seeing defination in that area...but I still have a bit of "pudge from having my kids. Hope my experience helps a bit. be sure to discuss ALL options with your dr. that best suit you :-)

Looking pregnant when I'm not

Hi Anneston,

I am in the same boat. My dr. told me in May she thought I had fibroids, and after the ultrasound, and internal part of that(oh my). It was confirmed I had fibroids in my uterus, and on my right ovary. So I have chosen to had a tah/rso on July 18. My dr. told me that the removal of my uterus, cervix, and right ovary was best for me. She said that if she didn't take the cervix it was likely that fibroids would grow there to, and bladder tacking. I am 36 and both of my db's are grown. (I started young). So definately no more kids for me. She also said that with just removing them, would be a temporary fix that they would definately more than likely grow back. I too have the swelling in abdomen, and am now wearing some of my dh's clothes. LOL He thinks that is hillarious. But, my clothing to all tooooo tight. I have a few big shirts, and I also borrow some of his t shirts. LOL Will let you know about the remaining bulge after my castle date.
So that was my decision. I also have lower back pain, and pain in the right side, heavy periods, and just feel terrible more often than not.
I hope it is of some comfort that you know there are others here that are walking the same road as you. I know this site has been such a blessing to me.
