Complete hysterectomy Jan 11 - diabetic worries

In addition to the natural anxieties I'm worried about my sugar levels ( type 1) will it be too high the morning of the surgery and they will cancel? Or become too low in the middle of the night after I'm not supposed to take anything else in to raise it. Also bleeding really heavily right now with giant clots, modest about that

Re: Complete hysterectomy Jan 11 - diabetic worries

Hi...I am Type 2 Diabetic and they checked my blood sugar before, during, and after surgery. They would have treated a high or a low if needed. I doubt they would cancel your surgery. Just be sure to ask at pre=op what to do when you are fasting during the night and it goes low.

As for the bleeding, if you still are, you won't be the first...they will just give you a pad in pre-op then remove it for surgery. Lots of women are bleeding on surgery day.

Just in case your sugar is low before you go to the surgery center, you might want to have some Glucagon (the sublingual kind) Or karo syrup or some sort of syrup you can put under your tongue in order to bring your sugar back up.

Hi angelsha -

I am hypoglycemic, and my surgery got pushed back from 7 am to 10 am . My anesthesiologist told me that instead of stopping at midnight, I was too PUSH clear white grape juice until 7 AM the day of the surgery.

Here is an article that may provide information to you: Diabetes and Hysterectomy]Diabetes and Hysterectomy.

Given your health condition, you may need special instructions. So definitely talk with all of your doctors about your situation.
