symptoms of fibroids????

I went to the emergency room for mass in lower right quadrant. They did a ct scan and said it was fibroids. I have had no real pain and no bleeding with them. I have one growing on the upper fundus of the uterus and one on the backside. I guess they are growing on the outside and that is why there is no pain or bleeding. I have some urinary frequency, but that is it. Other than that i feel good everyday and continue to workout and play tennis regularly. However they are telling me these fibroids are very large.......... 11cm and 10cm.

Has anyone had similiar fibroid symptoms? B/C it seems like most woman on this site experience a lot of pain and/or bleeding. Don't get me wrong i feel fortunate not to have these symptoms, but a little concerned at the same time??????

symptoms of fibroids????

I didn't have the "typical" symptoms of fibroids. No unusual bleeding - I've always had bad cramping during my periods - had to go to the john all the time and had increasingly bad back pain. The back pain is what sent me to the doctor and it took awhile to figure out what it was. Even though I'm older, I couldn't wait for menopause to see if they would shrink (mine were really large too) and my quality of life was getting increasingly poor.

Decided to have the surgery and for me it was one of the best decisions of my life. What are your doctors saying you should do?

symptoms of fibroids????

Hi cbuc

I also had no pain or heavy periods with my fibroids, one of which I now know was 20cm x 20cm and another was 14cm or so. I definately had the urinary frequency - up a couple of times a night etc etc. I didnt actually know I had fibroids until I felt heavy down below when jogging. that led to getting the scan which confirmed the fibroids. At least that explained why I had such a big belly and always needed to pee! Post-op it turns out that the biggest fibroid was behind the uterus and engulfing the cervix, so guess thats why I had the heavy feeling. Last June I had a fibroid embolization procedure, but that had very little impact, so eventually I agreed with my consultant's recommendation that a hyst was the best option. I can only suggest that you get as much information as you can from the Drs as to the pros and cons for you personally, as we are all different.

As it turns out I've had an uneventful recovery, back to work in just a couple of days - justover 6 weeks post surgery - and now ready to get back into a fitness routine.

Best wishes to you

symptoms of fibroids????

I too, have fibroids that ARE becoming inceasingly more and more bothersome.

I have a surgical consult on June 6th and my last ultrsound shows that my uterus is 20 weeks in size.

My fibroids have grown from 12-14 week size to 20 plus weeks in a years time.

My periods are getting worse by the month-to the point that I was actually physically ill with the last one-terrible pain, violent chills, fever, headache and pain all the way up to my stomach area- had to wait a day longer to leave for vacation. I actually though, only have heavy bleeding for 1 day of my cycle-but the cycle has started to linger on for 10 days or more.

From what my Dr. has told me, these things usually get worse with time. I was hoping the growth would stop and I could hold off until menopause when they would stop growing, but I have now reached the decision that the whole thing is just plain altering my life too darn much and I'm ready for these periods to be over with so I can be truly free to live my life and not have to plan everything around my periods. I am 43 years old.

I hope things to do progress with you, the way they have with me.

symptoms of fibroids????

The only symptom I had at first was bleeding. Then the pressure and pain started about 3 years later. I wish I would have had my hysterectomy right then and there instead of waiting and going through all the crap I had to go through. Unless you make it to menopause the things don't get any smaller. The bigger they get the more damage they do.

symptoms of fibroids????

Hi Cbuc,

I also have a fibroid growing on the fundus, but mine is around 7 to 8cm, and I have another one that is around 6 to 7cm, but my doctor doesn't think these two are responsible for the heavy bleeding and borderline anemia that I have. My ultrasound did show smaller fibroids that were around 1 to 2cm but never stated their location, so those may be the ones responsible for the heavy bleeding that I've been having. I started having heavy bleeding about 5 years ago, but I wasn't having to change pads as quickly as I am now. The bleeding I've been having got worse during the past 9 months or so. I also started to notice frequent urination and just before I went to see my doctor, I was chewing ice constantly. I agree with the other sisters, the symptoms keep progressing each year. My uterus is now somewhere between 10 to 12 weeks size. I noticed that pants I bought 6 months a go no longer fit around my waist, no problem with hips and thighs. What is really odd is that I've lost 15 pounds since buying those pants, and I can't button them up anymore. Hopefully after my Hysterectomy, and when swelly belly goes down, I can put on my favorite jeans again.
