Hypothyroidism anyone? (Body temp low)

I had a Dvh on Nov 20th. I have noticed the last week or so, my temp has been 97.1 to 97.7. Sometimes in the morning it can be as low as 96.5 I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 6 yrs ago. This is a concern since having a Hysterectomy can cause thyroid issues to get worst. I am currently on synthroid. My temp was averaging 98.3 to 99.4 in the beginning of my coming home from the hospital.

I am thinking I should call my PCP for a blood panel? I am super concerned that I have an issue. Is there others here with Hypothyroidism that had to up their dose soon after their hyst???

Re: Hypothyroidism anyone? (Body temp low)

I had a very different thing happen - I had a routine blood panel done in the fall of 2012 when I started with a new GP. The only thing that came back wonky was that my TSH results said my Synthroid dosage needed to be increased again. I was surprised, because it had already been increased less than a year before and usually I go a few years between increases, but no big deal.

Two months later, I started seeing the post-menopausal bleeding that eventually turned out to be a symptom of endometrial cancer. Endometrial cancer's fed by estrogen. My gyn commented that I don't have a "typical" body type for endo cancer, i.e., not a lot of estrogen-producing fat cells.

Given that thyroxine and estrogen interact within the body, I'm still wondering if the upsurge in my TSH coincided with (or caused? Or was caused by?) an upsurge in estrogen levels.

I did have another TSH test done six weeks after my hysterectomy, and everything was fine.

Definitely in your shoes I'd be calling my GP and asking for a TSH test - a complete blood panel if the doc feels it's necessary but definitely a TSH test. The test is simple, Synthroid is cheap if that's what it turns out you need more of.

Thanks for your input. I will ask for a panel to be done at my 6 week post op on Jan 3rd. =]

Hypothyroidism anyone? (Body temp low)

I am post-RAI hypothyroid due to my thyroid being abated with radiation due to Graves Disease (hyperthyroid condition). My endocrinologist said that removing my ovaries and then replacing with hormones will likely cause me to need to reduce my Synthroid. Hour said we needed to wait 6 to 8 weeks after I started hormones to test the thyroid bcs it takes that long to have a true affect on YSH. Now having aid that I am 8 weeks out today, and it seems my thyroid has fluctuated quite a bit. I generally can tell from difference in my hair loss. A few weeks it was quite a lot and then virtually none and now back to quite a lot. Just my 2 cents...

Re: Hypothyroidism anyone? (Body temp low)

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 9 years ago. Am on Synthroid and am planning on getting everything retested in January. Wanted to give my body some time to heal and adjust.

That is my plan as well. I have been doing the temp thing for a while now. For the last year my temp stayed at 98. something unless I have a fever. So I was chalking the resent change as my body is getting use to the changes. I am hoping that's all it is. I'm just in the first days of my fifth week so I'm sure my hormones are all over the place as of now. I go see my Surgeon On Jan 3rd so we shall see if things are ok.

I don't get the hair loss much. My body just starts to hurt- a lot! Neck especially. My heart does flip flops. My anxiety gets out of control and I sweat a lot even when cold. Ugh! I've had a few of these symptoms lately, but not all at once as I have had in the past. I guess I shall see come Jan if I'm out of whack. Thanks for responding.

I have been reading about different thyroid meds like Armour and Nature-thyroid. Have any of you tried these? If so, did you have good results?

I had a lot of those same symptoms but they have all seemed to level out. Sometimes thyroid symptoms and s change in estrogen levels are very similar. As I have adjusted to my HRT dose all O those symptoms have gone. Hopefully yours will level out soon.

Re: Hypothyroidism anyone? (Body temp low)

I have Hashimoto thyroditis. I take 175mg of levothroxin. I have one ovary and i haven't noticed any changes. I do go to my pcp about every 2 2 to 3 weeks so he checks my levels. Good luck to you O:-)
