Embarrassing BM issues

I am chronocally constipated, I feel your pain. Come to think of it, I do experience some gas pain now and then that I don't recall noticing before the surgery. I am going everyday, but I don't feel I am totally evacuating my bowels, kwim? I feel like I am one really big bowel movement away from complete recovery, lol. But I ususally felt that way before. Who has time to sit on the toilet for 20 minutes (besides a man?)

I have found that fiber and water are my friends. I like that weight control oatmeal from Quajer, it has 7 gms of dietary fiber in it. Also fruits with the skin ON, fiber tabs are OK too. Natural fiber will add bulk to the stool in addition to encouraging peristalsis (ie action) in the large bowel. That and moving.

Also, opiod pain meds are famous for causing constipation. In fact, they are sometimes used to control IBS or Chron's for that very reason, they slow EVERYTHIONG down. If you can, do without them.

Embarrassing BM issues

Hi, I am 4 1/2 weeks post and I still have bowel issues, too. I seem to alternate between bloating up with painful gas and unable to go one day, then diarrhea the next. I am trying to watch what I eat. Gas-X helps a little, but the only thing that really helps the pain is to go. The first week post I had severe diarrhea (once I finally started going on day 5, they kept me in hospital six days!); this continued for another 5 days until I stopped taking a pain med called Toridol (sp?). They gave it to me for 5 days straight in the hospital, then I had a prescription. Finally I read my pill book and it said never take it more than 5 days--side effects include diarrhea and sleepiness, which I had. So check your meds!

I am so glad to know I am not the only one. I have been passing alot of loud gas and I too get really crampy before a BM. Then it is very loose and soft. I am going alike twice a day and when I gotta go, I gotta go NOW! I am guessing this is normal, but will it last? Oh yeah and this is gross but mine is discolored, a little green. I have been eating alot of broccoli lately and I am hoping that is it.

I love all the humor the bm issue will pass. I am now six weeks and remember going from to too soft to too hard. Drink water, and drink more water. It will get better.

Embarrassing BM issues

I'm about 3 weeks out and I still get painful cramps in my abdomen/bowels before I "go," then I'm just fine afterwards. I do go 2 -3 times per day (it was 1 -2 times before surgery). My uterus was so adhered to my bowel that my surgeon had to call in a specialist to remove the adhesions... I think it added at least an hour to my surgery! So, I'm not surprised... I bet I'm really black & blue on the inside!! Even my bladder is still a little sore.

I totally agree with Goren, lots of water and fiber. Oatmeal is great, so are fresh cut apples and carrots. I find that when I slack on the water, oatmeal, and fruit then my bm's are not as full or as easy to pass.

Every day is less painful, though! :dance2:

My doctor told me to use a stool softner. I did and it sure did help. You can buy these over the counter.

I too have incredible pain when I have a BM !! The pain is so severe I cringe and almost cry while sitting on the throne ! I am sorry, but am glad to hear that I am not the only one experiencing it ! My Dr. said that that is not "normal" and he does not know what it is other than just "the healing process". My BM was very loose for the first 2 1/2 weeks, and now is just "soft" which is much better than "hard". I thought I could not ever have labor pain again since my tubal, but let me tell you, this hurts JUST AS BAD !! If anyone has advise, please write ! Still looking for answers myself !!! ~ dawn

Here's my best advice - LAXATIVE!!!! That was the only thing that got me through. I'm 3+ months post op and feeling really great. Don't worry, it DOES get better, even though you don't think so right now.
Remember to just eat light and definitely take some laxatives, it really will help. I promise, another week and this painful function will go back to normal.
The pain meds don't help this any, but I know that you need them. Just think, one more week!!
Best of luck, ladies!
