Hysterectomy rescheduled sooner

My total hysterectomy was scheduled for June 27, and was moved to May 25- next Wednesday. I requested to get contacted if someone cancelled. So , I am overwhelmed. I wanted it sooner but now its too soon. My husband and are in process of separation and now I and going crazy of the idea my heart is broken because I love him- but things don't work anymore as I've been sick for 4 yrs. And am not sure if I want him to help me with recovery. Don't have other family members to help me.

Re: Hysterectomy r/s sooner

I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. Both of the things you are dealing with are hard. So you have 5 days to get ready. That is actually plenty of time. The important things are to arrange for rides, pack for the hospital (and you don't usually need much), prepare meals in advance, clean, and make a nest for yourself with plenty of pillows, ice pack and heating pad. Another thing that might help is a seat for the shower, I liked it, but not everyone does. We have had several sisters do recovery by themselves just fine. Hopefully one will chime in soon. As for your separation, I'm so sorry to hear of it. I'm hoping with this surgery you won't be sick anymore, and perhaps (if you want) you can work it out. I know being sick all the time can really strain a relationship. However, it may be there's more to it than your being sick. I'm hoping that when you heal, you'll be able to know if this is something you want to mend, or if it's time for you to move on. If I were you, and I'm not, and this is easier said than done, try not to think of the relationship things right now. Don't confuse your thoughts about your relationship with your thoughts about hysterectomy and recovery. We're here for you anytime.

Re: Hysterectomy rescheduled sooner

Hi May, I am also scheduled the 25th, so we will recoup after surgeries together. I tell you what, separations and divorces are hard and especially when you are going through a big change. I was divorced when I was four months pregnant with my son and was 22 years old, because my ex was cheating. It was horrific. But I focused on my health as best I could and that of my baby and started a new life. (Not saying you want to start over.) I cannot say what is best for you, but you may know. Is it a time where you two can be good to each other If he stays and helps or will it cause more harm and being upset if he does? Definitely choose what will aid in your healing, and then when you are feeling a bit better you two can make bigger decisions on what you want to do? Just my rambling thoughts, but I will be here on the same thread as you after surgery to talk to any time. As far as getting ready, I was bad and only did some cleaning and "nesting" today. I have just been worn out and not motivated, but even a little prepping helps. Run to the market and get some easy prep food and snacks. Get enough toiletries etc to get you through and then go from there. Hang in there, hugs!!

Thank you for your support. I think I'll overlook our differences for the meantime. He'll take care of kids- will take 3 days off work. It is tough though living under the same and I cannot share my worries with who I still love. Thanks to hyster sisters , I don't feel alone through this life changing event, my hysterectomy.
