Is your surgeon male or female? Did their gender play into your decision?

Mine is female. I have a higher comfort level with female providers and it was a factor in choosing her.

lol. My dentist is also a woman. Guess I have both ends covered.

My gyn/surgeon is male, I have no problems with that, as a mater of fact i find most female doctors have less compassion then men

my surgeon is a male. it doesnt bother me a bit and i dont think i could have found anyone more competant than him. i have friends who prefer females and theres nothing wrong with that..its just a personal preference. the only time it should matter is when someone picks a less qualified female so they avoid a male dr (not saying you do that). good luck with your surgery..i wish you a speedy recovery

My doctor is female, but she is the first female Gyn I have ever gone to. I always went to men before that (it was a definite preference) and only picked this one when I changed doctors because she happened to be the one who ended up doing an emergency c-section on me. The doc from my previous doctor's practice had left the hospital to check a patient in another hospital and my baby's cord prolapsed and she had no heartbeat...I was lucky she was there seeing her own patient. So I figured if I needed to pick a new doc I may as well pick someone who has seen my insides already!

In any case, I have found I can talk to her more easily about things that would have embarassed me a little with my old doctor, even though he was great. I think she is more caring and listens better than he did. That said, the reason I left my old doctor's practice was because of a major surgical screw-up by one of the female doctors there. She basically removed a healthy fallopian tube and ovary on me due to just a ruptured cyst. So really, there are both good and bad doctors of both sexes and I've found you just need to find a good fit.

My gyn is female - but she is the first female gyn I have ever had. I think the world of her and I'm so glad she was recommended to me by a coworker, my primary physician, and a friend.

both my children were delivered by male doctors, they were great also.
