6 weeks post hysterectomy-granulation and silver nitrate

I just had my 6 week post op appt yesterday and was still having some spotting/discharge. During the internal exam (which was very painful) the doc saw a spot with a little granulation. He put silver nitrate on it. I have a couple questions, Has anyone else had a painful internal exam post op? It makes me fearful to have sex! Also, still having spotting and discharge today. When will it stop? He said I may have spotting or bleeding after sex and not to worry, but it still happening after a month to come back and he will do silver nitrate again. Not looking forward to that possibility as it was so darn painful! Thanks!

Sorry that you had a painful exam! I am due Monday for my six week checkup, and pretty nervous about having more pain! Looking forward to responses that you may get here......

Re: 6 weeks post hysterectomy-granulation and silver nitrate

Was it painful before or after the silver nitrate? I had sliver nitrate applied to my abdominal incision and it was very painful. The second time my doctor did it, I asked for lidocaine gel to apply beforehand and I didn't feel a thing. I was just wondering if the pain was from the silver nitrate or not.

I also just had my 6 week exam. My exams have always been unpleasant ( I don't sleep with men, so frankly I've never been very stretched out down there so the exams were always painful), so I also asked the doctor when she did that if she would lidocaine me up down there before doing the exam ...and ... I didn't feel a thing. I'm a fan of this new found lidocaine gel the doctor offered up and highly recommend it!

Re: 6 weeks post hysterectomy-granulation and silver nitrate

I had silver nitrate yesterday and am having some brownish discharge, my understanding is that's the tissues that have been cauterized by the silver nitrate sticks. My doc told me to wait a week before intercourse, I want to make sure the discharge is gone anyway.

I need to get some lube before trying to do the horizontal mambo, just haven't felt inspired yet. Sad, eh?

It hurt really bad when he put in the speculum-I had two times I about hopped off the table and then was kind of unpleasant when he did the silver nitrate. I have had some mild cramping and back pain since then. If I have to go back and have it done again I may request the lidocaine!

Thank you! Are you still having any bleeding or discharge? I don't remember too many posts about others having painful exams so maybe it's not too common. Good luck with yours Monday!
