Fibroids--Any advice for options and physicians?

I am currently have several fibroids with size around 12cm. I am only 27 yrs old, no children yet. I want to have kid someday in the future. My Dr. told me he can do the Myomectomy for me but there is a chance that he might take out my uterus. I am scared to death right now, looking out for another option. I saw a message about an "expert" fibroid doctor in the U.S. Could anyone send me a list of these Expert doctors? especially the one in New York. I would really appreciated your help.

I am sorry you are facing a major surgery at your age! My goes out to you since I had my hysterectomy when I was 25. I think you are wise to be seeking a second opinion and I do hope you find a doctor who can help you with a successful treatment plan that preserves your fertility!

You might want to do a web search for "fibroids + specialist." You can also check www.suggestadoctor.com for some suggestions. I would also suggest checking with fertility specialist as those types of doctors specialize in preserving fertility in women.

Besides a myomectomy, you may want to look at other options such as uterine fibroid embolization. Often that type of procedure is done by an Interventional Radiologists (IR). Other options might be a Mirena Coil or other hormonal treatments. We have several Resource Database you might want to read through to learn about the various options available.
