Is all this normal?

I'm almost 3 weeks post opt. I still feel pretty tired and keep having pains in my pelvic area and in my vagina. With my hysterectomy I had damage to my right ureter and a stent was placed that has to remain I'm for 4 more weeks. I feel like I have been doing more than I should. I have 2 children 5 and 12. My five year old had ADHD. And my husband is not overly helpful. I am nervous about my check up next week. I also am feeling very depressed and just not wanting to get out of bed most days. Yesterday I got in the shower and just cried. When will all this pass?

Re: Is all this normal?

At three weeks, it's still early yet. I think that was the worst part for me. I stayed tired, and I started having more pain and discharge/spotting as my stitches began dissolving. You also had quite a bit of work done so, you might need a little extra time for healing. Remember the initial healing period is about 6 weeks, maybe longer. You have to be patient with yourself and give yourself time to heal properly. As for the crying and feeling depressed, this is an emotional surgery. Losing a uterus has sometimes unanticipated emotions associated with it. Furthermore, your hormones are likely fluctuating which can lead to crying. Even though you kept one or both ovaries, they may have temporarily shut down with the surgery because most women's ovaries get their primary or a significant part of their blood supply from the uterine artery which is disrupted when the uterus is removed. It can take a few weeks for them to re-establish their blood supply and begin to function more optimally. Just try to give yourself some time. Some women seek counseling if the depression gets bad, and most benefit from it. You may want to give your doctor a call to let him/her know how you feel and to ease your mind.

Re: Is all this normal?

I had no complications and three weeks was awful, and all the ladies i was with said the same thing. We were so over it but it takes around 8 weeks to feel all good. But it take too much time! I know! But its awesome because no more bleeding or pain forever!
