Myomectomy next week

Well, it is 6 days 'til the day-Mar 16th. Am going to be going in for a hopeful myomectomy on a very large fibroid. Quite possible that it may end up being a hyst. I think that the fact that I am unsure of the results is causing me the most unrest. I have a large family/friends network of support which I am thankful for. I am however currently dealing with how and when to tell family members what happened during surgery. The doctors say that they will tell them whatever I want , whenever I want. It is my choice what they know. Does anyone have a diplomatic way of dealing with this. My mother is going to be the one they speak with, and I don't want to hurt her feelings, but as I am a thirty year old, I don't believe I will. I just know that she is going to want to know wether or not the surgery was successful.

Thank you
Eli

I hope your myomectomy is successful and you can avoid a hyst.

Only you can decide what is best for your mother and family to know. It depends on your relationship with your mother and family and how private you wish to keep your health. Drs can be very diplomatic about what to tell the family, so once you decide what information you want to share, your dr should know how to share it without giving out too much or too little info.

Best wishes to you!

Hi Whitelily,

I agree with Weiser. Best wishes with your myomectomy. My sister also had a myomectomy for a grapefruit sized fibroid when she was 30, and everything went well. Hope the same happens for you!!

In my opinion, the most important thing is your long term health and your quality of life. Whichever way it goes, your mom and your family will understand that.

Whitelilly,

I echo what Mary said. I have 2 friends that were in your same boat, both had positive results. Whatever your outcome, I wish you peace and health. Please make sure you allow enough time for the MYO recovery...make sure all those family members take good care of you.

Good luck with your surgery Whitelilly.

I agree with the others - it's your body and your privacy should be maintained. I just wanted to add that it can sometimes be helpful (to both of you) if the family knows what's going on or what happened during surgery, so they know how to support you. Although my DH wasn't up on all the terminology the docs used to describe my hyst, he did recall some helpful bits of info that I was too groggy to remember.

We'll be thinking of you & saying extra that your myomectomy is successful.
Gentle s,
Beth
