"GAS" big word of the day

Who woud have thought that passing gas is such a big deal? Well, it is in my case. I had my hysterectomy on the 13th and was having problems trying to fart. The hospital finally gave me a sapository and it finally worked. Now I am waiting for the dreaded bowel movement. I'm sure one of you ladies have been in my shoes so I am asking how long does it take to get things moving? I've been walking and rocking for 2 days now.

Re: "GAS" big word of the day

What worked for me was drinking prune juice; two whole cups of it at once. Many other ladies find that prunes, dried apricots or warming up the prune juice with apple juice or sauce seems to do the trick. I hope things move along for you quickly.

Re: "GAS" big word of the day

Hello:
It took me 4days post op to have a bowl movement. Then it took another 3 days to have a second one. Then I was having one every two days for the second week. I am 4 weeks post op this coming Monday and things are back to normal.

Re: "GAS" big word of the day

Hi,
My first BM was day 8. On day 5 my bowel started the waking up process. It was excruciating. My bowel took 3 painful days to wake up. I had to bring out the big guns (stool softeners, gentle herbal laxative tea, warm water enemas, prunes, magnesium drink and gas pills).

I am at day 17 post-op and it still seems like a section of my bowel is sleeping. I slowly adjusted back on the herbal tea and enemas, but have continued all the others and plan to continue for many weeks to come.

Hope you have some success soon...

Re: "GAS" big word of the day

I had very painful gas the day after my davinchi hysterectomy. BM on day 2. I started taking stool softners immediately and drank lots of water and herbal tea. Today is day 2 and finally gas pains are starting to subside.

Re: "GAS" big word of the day

It took me 4 days to have a BM, and another 2 days to have a 2nd. Then I had to go in for surgery again... so it started the process all over again. I have just started week 4 and I'm starting to have a BM every day. The first one after each surgery were the worst, but it does get better. Stool softners, and laxatives were my friends for a while, but I don't need them now.

Re: "GAS" big word of the day

Hi, I am 8 days post op. It took 6 days after surgery to have a BM and what jump started it was prune juice, although walking and drinking lots of water helped me pass gas, the prune juice did the trick. The gas pain was just awful.
