3.5 months post hysterectomy - losing my hair :(

I had my hysterctomy may 12, 2014. They took my cervix and uterus but i kept my ovaries. For the past 2 months i have dealt with slight mood swing and a great deal of hair loss. On 3 different occasions when i brushed my hair there was enough hair in the brush to cover about 2 barbies heads. I see my regular physician on sept 5th and gyn on sept 29th. Has anyone experienced hair loss? Its bad enough that you can see through to my scalp in some areas.

Re: losing my hair :(

There could be several explanations for this: Hair Loss
Definitely ask your doctor about this and ask if it would be appropriate to test your hormone levels.

Re: losing my hair :(

Definitely follow up with your doctor about this.

Have you been eating plenty of protein rich foods? Have you been anemic?

Anemia can lead to some hair loss. So can stress, especially stress of a surgery. And also not getting enough protein doesn't help. Taking a multivitamin that includes biotin and zinc is something I am definitely doing every day. Along with the iron supplement and plenty of protein.

Usually my hair loss shows up 3-4 months later... After the stress or lack of iron that originally caused it.

I would not expect clumps of hair loss though. That is definitely something I would want my doctor to check out. Could be thyroid? I have had my thyroid checked for hair loss - but it was low iron that caused it.

Not sure but do make sure doc rules out all possible causes.

I'm going thru it too. I was told vitamin e and biotin were things that could help. I wish the hair on my legs and underarms would fall out instead..

Yea i definitely agree about the leg hair lol. I only take b12 vitamins and when i remember to take them i take hair, nail and skin vitamins. Oh and i also take birth control to stop the endometriosis from coming back.
