Knees are messed up 3 weeks post hysterectomy

About three days after surgery my knees were really sore. Now I'm having a difficult time walking and they really just hurt all the time.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Thanks!

Yes! I don't know whether it was the lying in bed more, lack of movement compared to usual, or something else. They felt like they were grinding when I walked! As I've gradually increased my daily walk, its going away. I'm also taking calcium supplements as I'm not on any HRT.

I have chronic knee pain, mainly caused by inflammation, so I work to keep that under control. As I understand it, one function of estrogen is to keep inflammation in check, as well as contributing to lubrication to the whole body, including the joints; your ovaries may have temporarily fallen asleep, so the resultant drop in estrogen may be contributing to your issues. What I would recommend is adding some anti-inflammatory foods to your diet; that includes ginger, turmeric, pineapple, and essential fats from fatty fish, avocados, nuts and seeds, and olive oil. Also avoid pro-inflammatory foods, including hydrogenated fats and refined sugar. A regular walking program can also help with joint lubrication, and preservation of your mobility. Also, if you're okay with eating soy, then 1-2 daily servings of tofu, edamame, or soy milk can help with hormonal balance until your ovaries wake back up. Best wishes for your continued recovery!
